Advocacy
Heyyyy OYFA! Check out #IAmAnImmigrant Day, the Philippines’s news, and our word of the week!
Dialogue: We will be co-sponsoring “#IAmAnImmigrant Day” with LSA, MELC, ISA and other orgs on November 1st! It will be a 2-part event where speakers tell their story of about immigrating to, assimilating, and living in America and then an open discussion. We would love to have more speakers from OYFA to share their story about immigrating to America. So if you’re interested pleaseee sign up HERE before the 18th!
Weather: Typhoon Sarika leaves 2 dead, strands thousands in the Philippines

A Category 3 typhoon barreled through the northern Philippines on Sunday, dumping heavy rains and unleashing strong winds on the land. Almost 12,500 people were evacuated to emergency shelters. There were damages to trees, electricity poles, and homes. Damage to farm crops, mostly rice and corn, was estimated at 53.5 million pesos ($1.4 million). Winds were up to 125 miles per hour, potentially the most destructive this year. Although the storm has weakened as it moved west, another storm could possibly enter by Monday.
Since this is so recent there aren’t any donation sites up yet specifically for Hurricane Sarika in the Philippines but do donate to the Philippines Disaster Relief Fund to support hurricane relief!
Word of the Week: For this week we have 2 words - a double whammy!
+“Bagyo” (bah - gyoh) means “typhoon” or “large storm” like “It’s bagyo season in the Philippines.”
+“Takbo” (tahk - boh) means “run” like “Takbo at Lakas 5K this Friday at 7PM!”

Have a great week everyone! Don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you need anything clarified or just to talk <3
