A Letter From Our Owner, Annie Philbrick

Dear Friends,

As Valentine's Day approaches, our bookstores are more determined than ever to show support and love for everyone in our community, no matter their opinions, background, race or national origin. In this spirit, we will be donating 20% of all sales this weekend to the ACLU of Connecticut and Rhode Island, WARM Center of Westerly, and the New London Homeless Hospitality Center. We believe that this support will show our love for our country and its freedoms.
We support the rights of all humans and all American citizens, champion freedom of speech and stand by the First Amendment of the United States of America. Tomorrow I leave for a week in Cuba with the U.S. Publishing Mission to Cuba. Cuba’s lack of freedom of speech and government censorship makes me think about what our two bookstores mean to all our customers—regardless of their views—and what you mean to us. We appreciate all views and opinions and want you all to feel welcome, and we make an effort to carry books that cover a wide range of subjects and are carefully curated to allow all of you a sense of discovery and comfort as you browse our shelves.
We hope you will support us by shopping in our stores on Saturday and Sunday in solidarity with all those in our community and our nation, and also by supporting the above groups on your own. Know that your purchases this weekend will be benefiting not only your local independent bookstores but organizations that strive to make a difference in our world.

Annie Philbrick
