Yellow, it wasn't you. It was me.

Where is the yellow?

In response to my January post about the Zig Zag Cabinet, my silly friend Gary sent me a most amusing email. He was busting my chops saying he didn't understand all that stuff on the front of the cabinet and offered a few "opinions" on what it was for. It cracked me up. But his final question on the matter was: "And where is the yellow?" Gary and I both thought this was clever/stupid/hilarious (hi Gary!). But what Gary probably didn't realize is that I have been asking myself this very question lately. Where is the yellow?

When I was a little girl, my favorite color was yellow. Then I decided on a new favorite color. But I didn't want to say it out loud because I did not want yellow to hear and get hurt feelings (um...what?).
I have been noticing lately that there is a lack of yellow in my work. I used yellow in my earlier pieces (see photos above and below) but my more recent work has not been sporting the yellow. Where is the yellow?
How do I love yellow? Let me count the ways: It looks great as stripes on bees. It keeps us in our own lanes on roads. It adds verticality in gardens on sunflowers. It helps us write down our thoughts as #2 pencils. It illuminates the Rocky Mountains via Aspen trees in the fall. Sigh. Oh yellow, can you ever forgive me for not consulting you on my recent color schemes? As that hussy red is my witness, I will create an artwork as tribute to yellow this year!
If you happen to see yellow, can you let it know that I want it back?
