Grow A Row
This popular program is thriving at SRG, thanks to the support of our volunteers, District of Sooke and the community. Our 2014  coordinator is Paula McCormick, returning for her 2nd year. Her core team of volunteers – Patricia, Cecelia, Wal, Ron, Jocelyn, Barbara, Doug and Emily (including Jacob & River) supported Paula and other volunteers throughout the winter. Harvesting has reaped early greens, rhubarbs and salad  for Sooke’s Food Bank.
Wanna Feel  Good – Volunteer with Grow a Row
Volunteers are always welcome! Come lend a hand, one or two hours a week - Wed. or Sun., 1 to 4 pm. Volunteer opportunities cater to all levels of interest and physical ability. Novice and seasoned gardeners work side by side in a friendly garden where time out is taken for tea. Volunteers get to take fresh produce home, and friendships are formed. If you do not feel particularly social, that is okay too – we have activities for those who wish to work alone.  Call Paula to find out more -  250 642 5572

Tuesday April 22
Join us for the last in a series of three Food CHI farming workshops.

Sooke Region Food CHI Society is inviting Transition Sooke, the recently established Sooke Region Farmland Trust Society, and special guests Merville Organics' Arzeena Hamir and Moss Dance to discuss how a community can support more food-growing initiatives and what farmers can do to support one another.

Arzeena Hamir (Amara Farm) has helped organize farming communities across B.C., from Richmond to Vancouver Island.  Organic farmer and Young Agrarian Moss Dance (Ripple Farm) cut her (tractor) teeth here in Sooke, apprenticing with ALM Organic Farm.  Together, their two farms form Merville Organics, a popular CSA program in the Comox Valley.
All are welcome: farmers, gardeners and localvores alike!
