DOS Grant Review Meeting
Monday December 14, 7 pm
Council Chambers
A recommendation is going forward from the District of Sooke’s Grants Review Committee to discontinue the funding for Grow A Row at SRG on Phillips Rd. It appears that a District review of this ongoing program was not conducted with correct information, and did not include input from those providing the voluntary service and those served by the program. Many people in Sooke do not have food security and receive support from the Sooke Food Bank, a local agency being faced with growing demand to support the food insecure in our community. Food CHI coordinates the growing of over 3000 lbs. of fresh produce primarily given to the Sooke Food Bank and families served by Sooke’s CASA agencies. We do not want to see Sooke deprived of a worthy citizen engagement program that invests in our community's helping agencies and builds capacity by teaching 20+ volunteers how to grow food; we need to appeal to the District Council on Dec. 14th to not accept the recommendation. Members, your presence at this important meeting is critical, come show your support. For more info contact Phoebe: 250-642-4342, or info@sookefoodchi.ca. The agenda for the session is available on the District's website here.
