Organic Beekeeping 101 + Honey Tasting
February 9th, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Surry County Cooperative Extension Office,  Office, 210 N Main St, Dobson, NC 27017 [ map ]

We will be viewing the DVD from the NCSBA Library entitled “Organic Beekeeping 101″ by Randy Sue Collins.  The DVD covers not just organic beekeeping, but topics that provide a good overview for any beekeeper.  If you are already an experienced beekeeper, this DVD is a great way to educate your family and friends who want to know more about beekeeping.  Professionally filmed footage in a step-by-step format enables the new beekeeper to easily understand and implement the organic principles as they establish their own hives.

We will also be sampling some different kinds of honey.  If you would like to include your honey in the tasting – please bring some with you.  If you have buckwheat honey, please, please bring some for us to taste!  Tasting spoons will be provided.

Don't forget!  If you have time before the meeting, meet us at The Lantern Restaurant, 2 doors down from the Extension Center, for dinner starting around 5:45 pm.

Bees for Sale
Tim Holt attended the November SCBA meeting and announced that he will be selling bees in the spring.  Tim is one of the largest commercial beekeepers in NC with over 6000 hives.  It was suggested that the Surry Beekeepers put in an order together to make deliver easier.  To learn more about this opportunity and get on the list, go to our website at http://SurryBeekeepers.org and click on the link for "Bees for Sale."

Also selling nucs are Ann & Tony Benge who have supported (and continue to support) the Surry Beekeepers by donating bees or equipment for Bee School and also making presentations on queen rearing.  5 frame nucs with a mated queen are available from Ann & Tony for $125.  Call early to make sure you can get on their list:  336-874-2260.
Pay Your Dues
If you haven't paid your annual dues and are not sure when you'll get to a meeting to renew, you can also send a check for $20 made out to Surry County Beekeepers to our Treasurer, Lisa Royal at 131 Farmers Lane, State Road, NC 28676.
