LUCI's new EU project on permanent light art
Earlier this year, LUCI and its city members Lyon, Oulu and Turin, launched a new European project called Light & Art in Public Spaces aiming to strengthen city capacities on permanent light art installations in the urban space. Learn more about this project here >>
City of Kazan joins LUCI
We are pleased to announce that the City of Kazan (population 1 243 000) has just joined the LUCI network. The fifth-largest city in Russia, and the most populous city on the Volga river, Kazan has many ambitious plans linked to its urban lighting, including a new light festival to launch later this year. 
LUMA8 (USA): an independent, not for profit arts organisation based in Chicago that produces a series of individual and annual events.

YD Illumination (China):  an LED lighting product manufacturer for outdoor decoration lighting luminaires and intelligent control systems based in Hangzhou.
CITIES IN ACTION
Oulu is new European Capital of Culture 2026!
Congratulations to the City of Oulu which just won the title of European Capital of Culture for 2026! Known for its light festival and its award-winning lighting designs, the city’s bid, Cultural Climate Change gave a strong space to light.

Lights on! Lucia project lighting conference
Save the date for the final conference of the Lucia – Lighting the Baltic Sea Region project which will take place on 22 – 23 September 2021. The conference provides impulses for local authorities, lighting planners and other stakeholders to implement their plans for energy-efficient, multifunctional and sustainable lighting.

The City of Seoul shared its media facade management and curation strategy with the LUCI network in this month’s LUCI Coffee Break. LUCI members can see some videos of Seoul's media facade art projects curated specifically in response to the COVID-19 crisis in the LUCI Hub here >>
 
Report on the Value of Smart Urban Lighting
Read this report published by the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), LUCI associated member, seeking to define smart lighting. The report also explores the value of smart lighting for both energy and operational costs for municipalities as well as citizens’ wellbeing.

Reminder: call for abstracts on light for health & wellbeing
Researchers are invited to send abstracts for the international conference on “Shaping light for health and wellbeing in cities” organised by the ENLIGHTENme project online on 16-17 December 2021.The virtual event will bring together representatives from academia, industry and local administrations across Europe for discussions around latest findings on urban lighting in relation to citizen’s health and wellbeing.
