IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE BELFAST FARMERS' MARKET - PLEASE READ

COVID-19 and Vendor Pre-Ordering at the Belfast Farmers' Market

Support the local farmers and food businesses of the Belfast Farmers’ Market while sheltering-in-place. Farmers markets remain open as an essential service in Maine, but as we’re advised to stay home and practice social distancing,  many of our vendors are also prepared to make delicious, local food also available for pickup or delivery via pre-order. Checkout the Belfast Farmers' Market website for up to date information regarding each vendors pre-ordering options.

SNAP / EBT INFORMATION

The Belfast Farmers Market is COMMITTED to providing full access to SNAP/EBT shoppers, and our Info Tent continues to process EBT payments for our Farmers using the existing clipboard system.

In order to continue to provide EBT processing during the COVID-19 pandemic we have had to suspend access to clipboards for Credit/Debit cards such as VISA, AMEX, MasterCard, and Discover. We hope to be able to return to processing all these forms of payment in the future. In the meantime many vendors have their own Credit/Debit swipe systems, and/or have enabled pre-order credit/debit card purchasing through their Web Shops. Otherwise cash and checks can still be used for non-pre-order items.

MAINE HARVEST BUCKS

The Belfast Farmers Market continues to accept and distribute Harvest Bucks to EBT/SNAP users!

You can DOUBLE YOUR SHOPPING DOLLARS
when you use your EBT card at the Belfast Farmers Market.

This Week at the Market....

FIRE FLOWER GARDEN AND POTTERY

Finally, the flowers had enough rain to begin to make a real show.

Delphiniums and rudbeckia are coming into full bloom, and the zinnias are just beginning to bloom as well as the gooseneck loosestrife. Still waiting on the snapdragons which did not like the hot and dry at all and still have some catching up to do. Come get a beautiful bouquet this week! The gardens will be open again this Saturday as our Pottery in the Garden event will continue throughout the summer.

APPLETON CREAMERY

The farmers at Appleton Creamery would like to remind all farmers' market shoppers to please not touch any products until after you have purchased them. And, whatever you do, stay behind the caution tape!

That's just one of the many covid-19 safety precautions you'll find at farmers' markets across Maine! Happy shopping this beautiful weekend! #lovemainemarkets

A rare sighting of Robin! Adrienne and Ken’s (New Beat Farm) new daughter. Our latest market sprout!

DICKEY HILL FARM

Along with many other farms around the state, we are taking the week to highlight the Somali Bantu Community Association and their fundraising efforts to secure farmland. “The cost of land and access to it challenges most small farmers who don’t inherit land, especially farmers of color and other socially disadvantaged groups. Liberation Farms is a model of land tenure that also promotes regenerative diversified food production, collective ecosystem stewardship, and returns natural capital to land.”
To directly support the Somali Bantu Community Association in land tenure and the ability to uphold cultural identity in community, visit https://agrariantrust.org/agrariancommons/little-jubba/. Here at Dickey Hill Farm we will be contributing 10% of this week’s sales to support this work.

TODDY POND FARM

This week, we are joining forces with many other Maine farms and pledging our social media and financial support to the Somali Bantu Community Association and their fundraising efforts to secure farmland in Maine.

The Somali Bantu Community Association's mission is to provide vital transitional services, advocacy, and programming that empowers members of the refugee community to uphold cultural identity and thrive in their new life here in Lewiston, Maine. The mission of the SBCA’s Liberation Farms is to provide new American farmers access to, and culturally-appropriate resources for, the means of sustainable food production for themselves, their families, and their communities.

To directly support the Somali Bantu Community Association in land tenure and the ability to uphold cultural identity in community, please visit:

10% of our market sales will be donated to support this work.
