We've moved early in order to better serve our customers

256 High Street, Belfast Maine

in the yard of the Waterfall Arts Building
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE BELFAST FARMERS' MARKET - PLEASE READ

Dear Belfast Farmers’ Market customers,

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak the Belfast Farmers’ Market has moved to our outside location at Waterfall Arts 256 High Street, Belfast from 9am-1pm.

The Belfast Farmers’ Market is deeply committed to community safety and in addition to moving outside vendors will be following a comprehensive list of new COVID-19 protocol.  With public health as a top priority during the COVID19 outbreak the market has transitioned away from a social gathering hub to a place to efficiently pick up necessities from local producers.

In light of COVID-19, we ask that our customers adhere to the following best practices:

  • the info tent will stay open for SNAP/EBT customers. In order to minimize the number of people congregating at the table and touching clipboards, we are asking that info booth credit card customers bring checks or cash to market, or make arrangements to use contactless payment options -(many of the vendors also accept credit cards at their stand).  If you are using a clipboard or writing checks, please bring your own pen.
  • please do not come to market if you are displaying symptoms of COVID19, or have knowingly come into contact with anyone who is sick.  Please have a neighbor shop for you or reach out to individual vendors for possible delivery options.
  • please only touch the food that you are buying
  • please practice frequent hand washing (for 20 sec) or use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol & avoid touching you face at market
  • If paying with cash please bring an assortment of bills to limit the amount of change-making required. Using a checkbook or credit/debit card are also excellent methods of payment to reduce contact. Some vendors offer chip readers or contactless debit/credit card processing using ApplePay / GooglePay.
  • practice social distancing of at least 6 feet when possible, this includes while waiting in lines - please be aware of how many people are in a tent at one time.
  • we ask that customers do not linger at market which includes taking their prepared food home “to go”
  • remember to wear raincoats/ bring umbrellas so you don’t feel like you have to crowd under tents in inclement weather!!

The good news is that COVID-19 is not a food-borne illness.  It is unlikely that someone will catch it through eating.  The virus is most likely to cause illness through respiratory transmission, not eating.  The routes to be concerned about include being in very close proximity to many people or coming in contact with high touch surfaces.

The Belfast Farmers’ Market values the opportunity to provide nutritious, healthy, locally grown and produced food to our community.  We believe that local food is safe food as it has passed through far fewer hands and facilities to get from our fields to your plates! Lastly, the market will continue to monitor CDC recommendations and respond accordingly.

Take care!

MANY VENDORS ARE OFFERING PRE-ORDER / PRE-PAY OPTIONS FOR PICK-UP AT THE MARKET.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND OUR CUSTOMERS TO USE THIS OPTION WHEN POSSIBLE, TO LIMIT CONTACT AND TIME AT THE MARKET.
THANK YOU.

DICKEY HILL FARM

During the COVID-19 outbreak Dickey Hill Farm is committed to providing safe and healthy food to our customers in ways that minimize the risk of spreading the virus.

Right now this means selling AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE of our current offerings through our online store at www.dickeyhillfarm.com.  We are currently offering this pre-order option for pick up at the Belfast Farmers' Market, Friday 9am-1pm (please note the market has moved to our outdoor Waterfall Arts location) OR for home delivery in Belfast, Swanville or Monroe.  We encourage home delivery for folks who are over the age of 60, immunocompromised, pose a higher risk of carrying COVID-19 or simply do not feel safe traveling to market.

TODDY POND FARM

During these uncertain and fast changing times, we like many others, are adapting our businesses in order to continue to provide our communities with safe and healthy food options.

  • On Wednesday 3/25 by 3 pm, we are launching a renewed version of our Online Store - see button below. We strongly encourage our customers to use online ordering to reduce wait time, eliminate payment contact and to ensure you receive everything you are looking for while at the market. Your order will be packed and waiting for you for pick up either at the Friday market or here at our farm store on Saturday. Please have all orders placed by 2 pm on Thursday for Friday pickup, and 2 pm Friday for Saturday pick up.
  • We've added contactless payment options of ApplePay & GooglePay for customers who wish to pay with a tap of their phone while shopping our booth at the market. We purchased a contactless reader to limit customer / farmer contact during this time. We also can accept Venmo payments at the market - it's super easy to use and free. We look forward to the days when hugs and handshakes are again the norm.
    • Below is our list of our preferred payment options in order of highest to lowest safety based on contact:
      • Pre-Order and pay through our website for pick-up
      • ApplePay, GooglePay or Venmo
      • Credit / Debit Card already on file with us
      • Credit / Debit Card Chip reader at the market - you hold the card
      • Check - please bring your own pen
      • Cash - please try to bring a variety of bills to limit the need to make change
  • We've expanded (again) the hours of our Farm Store - 7 am to 7 pm everyday.  We strongly recommend coming early in the day when our dirt road is still frozen, otherwise come in a capable vehicle. Ah, Maine in early Spring.
  • Regular cleaning of all touched surfaces in our farm store and a change in how customers can record their purchases - see picture above
  • A couple of different payment options in addition to cash or check for our honor system farm store - Venmo and the option to put your credit card on file (forms will be available at the market on Friday)
  • We would like to offer delivery / drop off services. Please contact us via email or phone if this is something you need, or there is someone you know who needs this assistance but is unable to contact us themselves.
  • Our regular store deliveries of yogurts, kefir and cheeses are continuing on schedule, and for folks in the Lincolnville area we've just started delivering to the Lincolnville General Store.

APPLETON CREAMERY

Kidding has been fast and furious at the farm, and the end is in sight! So far, 67 kids have been born to 29 moms, and the milk is flowing again! We will have goat cheese again this week. I can’t promise logs or chèvre in olive oil, but we WILL have spreads!

If you would like to preorder and prepay for a speedy visit to the farmers’ market, here is our cheese availability this week:

Goat cheese spreads, 4-oz, plain, dill, herb & garlic — $5
Goat milk feta, approx 6-oz, aged in brine — $8
Cow milk dill havarti, shrink wrapped slices, varied sizes
Cow milk gouda with cumin, shrink wrapped slices, varied sizes
Cow milk jack with cocoa rind, shrink wrapped slices, varied sizes
Halloumi, goat and cow blend, varied sizes
Cow milk camdenbert, varied sizes, approx $10-12 each.

We can let you know your total so you can bring a check or exact change, or we can send an invoice to be paid electronically. We will continue to take debit/credit as always.

We need to receive orders by 3 p.m. Thursday. Please text 542-7828 (and please identify yourself) or email appletoncreamery@gmail.com. No phone calls please — we are busy with kidding!

Or think about a Cheese CSA?
This season, we are offering a Flexible Cheese CSA to use at farmers’ markets and at the farm.
You may purchase in increments of $100 and receive a 15% discount on your choice of cheese.
Come see us at any farmers’ market or at the farm stand, and we can get you set up.
Our farm stand is now open daily, 11-5.

Local food is the safest food — ours is the only set of hands that has touched it before yours. Support your local farmers during these difficult times. We all have to eat!

Sadly, we anticipate that we will have to cancel our annual Kid Hugging Day in April. While we are all set with kid feeding volunteers, we would like to offer private time with the goat kids for snuggling and therapy. For two people at a time, no more than an hour, we ask a farm donation of $25 and hope you will also buy some cheese. Contact us for to schedule a time.
