A special thank you to AUBUCHON for hosting the winter farmers' market again this year. They turn the heat on every Friday morning and keep the greenhouse plowed out so the market can continue operating all winter.

This Week at the Market....

DICKEY HILL FARM

Here at Dickey Hill Farm transition is all around us!  Whether it be the snow melting off the pastures or our winter wash station slowly being taken over by seedlings in its progression back to wood heated greenhouse, there are many signs of spring!

Come by market this Friday for our first batch of overwintered scallions as well as lots more of those deliciously sweet greens.
This will be our final market indoors before we head back out to Waterfall Arts on April 12th!
FREYENHAGEN FARM

Here are a few photos of sugaring season at Freyhagen Farm. You can almost smell the deliciousness!!

APPLETON CREAMERY

As of press time, we’ve had 36 mamas give birth to 65 kids! Many of the kids have gone on to their new homes, but there are more to come. Bottle babies are available for sale. We still need volunteers to help feed kids, every day at 7 a.m., noon, and 5 p.m. New kids = milk = cheese! There will be more fresh cheese each week as spring progresses.

Jennifer will be manning our booth for the next two markets, while Caitlin and Brad take a MUCH needed vacation — our first in three years! Heading to sunny Spain on an agricultural tour.

Come on out to the farm on Sunday, April 28, 11-4, for our fourth annual Kid Hugging Day! There are other events that day along the Midcoast Cheese Trail (midcoastcheesetrail.com) , so make a day of it. The YumBus and Stone Fox Creamery will also be there.

SPRINGDALE FARM

If you're flipping through April's issue of Down East Magazine you may see a familiar face... it's Trish and Carrie from Springdale Farm!  I asked Trish what she thought and here was her reaction... (I think that's her excited face).

We are highlighted in a story about Maine Farmland Trust, our portion of the story is about my experience with protecting our family's farm, fulfilling my Grandmother's dream of protecting her farmland.  Working with MFT was an important part of transitioning our farm to the next generation.

Also, just for fun here are a couple of old favorite pictures of Maple Season from many years ago on our farm.  There are many old stories about Mickey the Donkey, who helped collect sap.

We don't tap any trees now but spent a wonderful Maple Weekend with Simmons and Daughters Sugar House in Morrill.  Thanks to everyone who came by!
go-en fermented foods

Sorry to have missed you all at market but we are busy putting next years miso together.  Did you know our miso is fermented for a full year before it is ready?  Setting the stage for this fermentation takes a lot of preparation and we aren't the only ones working at it. Our products are unpasteurized fermented foods and are filled with beneficial microorganisms.  These communities of magic taste makers are the real cooks in the kitchen. We've been spending our days and nights making sure they have everything they need to make you the best miso they know how.  Want to know a little more about miso?  Here is an article for you that gives a pretty good overview of miso with some recipes to play with. https://www.bonappetit.com/story/what-is-miso

ENERGY GEMS

Feed your body something miraculously nutritious, sprouted Energy Gems!

"Within the chrysalis a miracle occurs. Tiny cells, that biologists actually call 'imaginal cells,' begin to appear.  These cells are wholly different from caterpillar cells, carrying different information, vibrating to a different frequency-the frequency of the emerging butterfly. "
