DICKEY HILL FARM

Cooler mornings have us thinking about  winter food! In the greenhouse we are busily seeding spinach, kale and more for winter harvest and in the kitchen we are putting up food for winter meals.  One of our favorite winter treats to pull out of our freezer is roasted mini plum tomatoes.  We slice the fresh mini plum tomatoes lengthwise, toss in olive oil, salt and fresh chopped basil, and then roast at 350 degrees for an hour or hour and a half until some of the tomatoes have started to blacken.  Let cool and pack into a ziplock freezer bag.   Come winter these are amazing in stew, chili, pasta sauce, on pizza or polenta, etc.  We are selling these mini plum tomatoes by the quart or bulk: 10# for $35.  Shoot us an email at dickeyhillfarm@gmail.com if you would like to order bulk!!

ENCHANTED KITCHEN AT FIREFLY FARM & YUM BUS

The YumBus will have their seasonal favorites, the Caprese Crêpe (Maine organic heirloom tomato, mozzarella and Maine organic basil cream) AND the Blueberry Ricotta with our fresh picked organic blueberries, Maine ricotta, Maine Maple syrup and whipped cream.  Come check out our whole menu of ingredients mostly from Maine and made to order.  We have Maine organic buckwheat crêpes for our gluten free (and vegan!) option.
Enchanted Kitchen will have their full line of bakery goodies made with Maine organic grains.
See you at Market!!

CAROL'S COLLECTIBLES

Thanks to all for a great Summer at the Belfast Farmers Market. I will miss the great vendors and faithful customers but need to concentrate my energy at the Nursery now.  Come visit in Swanville!  Carol

WATERFALL ARTS NEWS

What happens when a beloved community arts organization gets taken over by quasi-art entities whose goals and motivations are unclear (and suspect at best)? Such is the question brought forth by artist/curator Kenny Cole in the upcoming four-artist exhibition, “GALLERY CLOSED”, featuring work by Kenny Cole, Geoff Hargadon, Paula Lalala, and Brian Reeves (up July 26 - September 20).  Viewers are invited to contemplate who shows, disseminates, and controls our perceptions about art. Subversive yet playful, this exhibition will feature a room-scale installation in the Clifford Gallery.

Belfast Farmers' Market Needs Your Help!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Do you have 2 hours available on an occasional Friday morning?
Do you want to support the markets' efforts to provide low-income shoppers with access to local food? Perhaps you appreciate the convenience of having the option to use your credit card at market? Maybe you just enjoy and value the Belfast Farmers' Market community and would be willing to give us an extra hand.  We are looking for a few additional volunteers to staff the market info booth this summer. Currently, we have a fabulous group of volunteers who tirelessly show up every Friday morning and work 2-4 hour shifts at the info booth, but we need more help for the bustling summer months. Volunteer duties include: welcoming shoppers, providing EBT/SNAP and credit card customers with clipboards for shopping, adding up shopping sheets, swiping customer cards on the markets' wireless machine, distributing Maine Harvest Bucks and answering general questions about the market.
No experience necessary, just a friendly and positive attitude.
Contact Marcia at Peacemeal Farm (peacemealfarm@gmail.com) for more details.
MAINE HARVEST BUCKS UPDATE
We just received an update from the Maine Federation of Farmers' Markets, the organization that manages the Maine Harvest Bucks program.
Now that the funding from the USDA FINI grant has been confirmed for the next three years, we will be handing out new vouchers.
We will also be able to accept vouchers with the 3/31/2019 expiration date
anytime through 2021!
