IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE BELFAST FARMERS' MARKET - PLEASE READ

SNAP / EBT INFORMATION

The Belfast Farmers Market is COMMITTED to providing full access to SNAP/EBT shoppers, and our Info Tent continues to process EBT payments for our Farmers using the existing clipboard system.

In order to continue to provide EBT processing during the COVID-19 pandemic we have had to suspend access to clipboards for Credit/Debit cards such as VISA, AMEX, MasterCard, and Discover. We hope to be able to return to processing all these forms of payment in the future. In the meantime many vendors have their own Credit/Debit swipe systems, and/or have enabled pre-order credit/debit card purchasing through their Web Shops. Otherwise cash and checks can still be used for non-pre-order items.

MAINE HARVEST BUCKS

The Belfast Farmers Market continues to accept and distribute Harvest Bucks to EBT/SNAP users!

You can DOUBLE YOUR SHOPPING DOLLARS
when you use your EBT card at the Belfast Farmers Market.
Visit this site for more details.

COVID-19 and Vendor Pre-Ordering at the Belfast Farmers' Market

Support the local farmers and food businesses of the Belfast Farmers’ Market while sheltering-in-place. Farmers markets remain open as an essential service in Maine, but as we’re advised to stay home and practice social distancing,  many of our vendors are also prepared to make delicious, local food also available for pickup or delivery via pre-order. Checkout the Belfast Farmers' Market website for up to date information regarding each vendors pre-ordering options.

Buying directly from your farmer is the safest food you can find! A reminder that for speedy shopping, you can preorder from us (and nearly any vendor at market) for a grab and go pickup. We need to have your order by Wednesday evening in order to have time to pack it all on Thursday. https://appleton-creamery2020.square.site

In all this seriousness, we are trying to bring a few smiles to your eyes at market. Photo credits to Lynn Karlin

TODDY POND FARM

It has been an physically and emotionally exhausting week.

The current situation across our nation has us grappling with a turbulent mix of emotions - sadness, anger, relief, gratitude, guilt and frustration.

It is challenging to know which is the best way to direct our energy, to do the most good that we can, to help those who need help, as they fight for the equality that is promised them by our nation. We believe it is important to do so in such a way as to not make the message about ourselves. We can yell and scream (and maybe we do when we're alone), but we can't pretend to know. We can't pretend the struggle is our own, that our voices are on par with those who fall victim to racism, so instead we will listen and help in a way we believe will be the most effective.

Heide and I have decided to pledge 20% of our Friday market sales to the NAACP - https://naacp.org/

We recognize that this will be a token amount, but we carry the hope that collectively, if we all give what we can to fight this continued injustice in our nation, we can provide the resources to those that need them to help them win their fight. We encourage you to donate as well - either through shopping with us, or on your own.

Be well and thank you,

Greg & Heide

And why the picture of this piglet?

Honestly, this little piglet and all the other adorable cute new life here on the farm this spring has kept us sane. In a world that is so ugly at times, these innocent creatures have helped remind us that there is so much beauty and kindness and love out there. These piglets live and eat and share space together as if they were all brothers and sisters, as do our sheep and lambs, as do our cows. If they can do it....

In solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives 10% of our sales this week will go directly to the National Bail Out www.nationalbailout.org.  "The National Bail Out collective is a Black-led and Black-centered collective of abolitionist organizers, lawyers and activists building a community-based movement to support our folks and end systems of pretrial detention and ultimately mass incarceration.  We are people who have been impacted by cages-- either by being in them ourselves or witnessing our families and loved one be encaged.  We are queer, trans, young, elder and immigrant.”
