Belfast Farmers' Market Needs Your Help!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Do you have 2 hours available on an occasional Friday morning?
Do you want to support the markets' efforts to provide low-income shoppers with access to local food? Perhaps you appreciate the convenience of having the option to use your credit card at market? Maybe you just enjoy and value the Belfast Farmers' Market community and would be willing to give us an extra hand.  We are looking for a few additional volunteers to staff the market info booth this summer. Currently, we have a fabulous group of volunteers who tirelessly show up every Friday morning and work 2-4 hour shifts at the info booth, but we need more help for the bustling summer months. Volunteer duties include: welcoming shoppers, providing EBT/SNAP and credit card customers with clipboards for shopping, adding up shopping sheets, swiping customer cards on the markets' wireless machine, distributing Maine Harvest Bucks and answering general questions about the market.
No experience necessary, just a friendly and positive attitude.

This Week at the Market....

CAROL'S COLLECTIBLES

The long awaited colors of Spring has finally arrived at Carol’s Collectibles Nursery!

ME WATER BUFFALO CO.

After a very wet spring, the water buffalo were happy to finally be put out onto the pasture! This week, ME Water Buffalo Co. will be bringing buffalo mozzarella, our Sicilian style gelato, plain creamtop & raspberry yogurt along with some other buffalo milk cheeses. Stop in for a sample! Did you know...you can preorder our farm's logo tees & hats for pickup the following week at market? Let us know if you'd like one for your summer wardrobe!

APPLETON CREAMERY

Appleton Creamery will have some lovely dill Havarti for you this week. Perfect for burgers on the grill!

We will also have Gouda with toasted cumin seed. Delicious in an omelet! All made with luscious Jersey milk from Springdale Farm.

We wrap our aged cheese slices in cellophane, which is made from wood, so it can breathe. Not plastic!

FIRE FLOWER GARDEN

Fire Flower Garden will be offering dahlia tubers that somehow avoided being marked by color  in a Three for One sale this week. They could be any color, your guess is as good as mine. I must have been tired when I dug them up last fall. I've also added a pure white to the marked tubers
available.

We will also have lots of hardy perennial  plants ready for your garden. There will be campanula, filipendula, daylily, sea holly, helenium and much more. I will still have plenty of dahlia tubers available. It's not too late to plant them for late summer beauty.

DICKEY HILL FARM

Last week we read in the Press Herald that this May was the most overcast May since the 1950s.  We are practicing patience as we note our crops marked delay, but seeing all the devastation farmers are facing in the Midwest brings perspective and reminds us the importance of continuing to build resiliency on the farm as we all bear witness to the impacts of our rapidly changing climate.

As for this week's market: we will have another good load of greens (spinach, lettuce mix, peashoots, kale, etc) as well as more seedlings for all you folks holding out for warmer weather!  Coming soon: carrots, snap peas and zucchini!!

Here is who is planning to be at market this week
