This Week at the Market....

DICKEY HILL FARM

Fall greens are in all their glory at Dickey Hill Farm!

“Eat more kale” “Eat more chard” “Eat more collards” “Eat more spinach” “Eat more radicchio” —- we encourage any and all of these!!

Last week we asked folks their favorite ways to eat collard greens and we received all sorts of great ideas: “braised with bacon, onions and apple cider vinegar” “blanched and used as a wrapper for veggie wraps and rolls” “in Portuguese soup” “sautéed and with eggs for breakfast” to name a few.  One of our favorite way to eat collards is braised in chicken stock, minced garlic and red pepper flakes.  Yum!!!

TODDY POND FARM

Well...will you look at that?!!

We've been nominated to be an award recipient in the Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce's
59th Annual Awards Night!

It appears that our Friday night dinners this summer caught some folks' attention. If you have a moment, please vote for your favorite local businesses - voting closes 10/14.

THE MAINE MEAL

We apologize for not making it last Friday... we got behind on prep for Maine's Garlic Festival at Lake George Regional Park in Canaan, ME (picture below) . We WILL be there this Friday and it will be our last Friday so stock up on fresh pasta and all of your favorites!

This week for fresh pasta we will have Large Shells and Pappardelle, Trecce in Whole Wheat, and Roasted Garlic Penne (frozen). Plenty of pasta sauces, soups, vegetarian and meat entrees to choose from.

Come visit us Nov. 23-24 (the weekend before Thanksgiving) at the Maine Harvest Festival! We will have fresh pasta and sauces for sale, HOT pasta bowls with choice of sauce for you to enjoy, and lots of yummy frozen meal options too! https://www.maineharvestfestival.com/

APPLETON CREAMERY

Have you tried our yogurt? This time of year, during late lactation, the goats’ milk is much higher in butterfat, resulting in an extra rich and thick yogurt.

Fleur is hoping to see you at Open Creamery Day this Sunday, 11-4. We have lots of fun planned!

ME WATER BUFFALO CO.

Come out to ME Water Buffalo Co. this Sunday from 11am-4pm (rain or shine) to celebrate Open Creamery Day!!! Pasture wagon rides to see the water buffalo up close, see our sheep, feed our pet goats, visit with the pigs, take a fall photo with "Roma" our water buffalo calf, sample some buffalo milk cheeses, shop for buffalo cheeses, yogurt, gelato, farm sweatshirts, etc., in our farm store & enjoy the beautiful fall scenery in Appleton. And, while you're in Appleton, swing on by to Appleton Creamery & enjoy more Open Creamery events at their farm as well!!!

Belfast Farmers' Market Needs Your Help!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Do you have 2 hours available on an occasional Friday morning?
Do you want to support the markets' efforts to provide low-income shoppers with access to local food? Perhaps you appreciate the convenience of having the option to use your credit card at market? Maybe you just enjoy and value the Belfast Farmers' Market community and would be willing to give us an extra hand.  We are looking for a few additional volunteers to staff the market info booth this summer. Currently, we have a fabulous group of volunteers who tirelessly show up every Friday morning and work 2-4 hour shifts at the info booth, but we need more help for the bustling summer months. Volunteer duties include: welcoming shoppers, providing EBT/SNAP and credit card customers with clipboards for shopping, adding up shopping sheets, swiping customer cards on the markets' wireless machine, distributing Maine Harvest Bucks and answering general questions about the market.
No experience necessary, just a friendly and positive attitude.
Contact Marcia at Peacemeal Farm (peacemealfarm@gmail.com) for more details.
MAINE HARVEST BUCKS UPDATE
We just received an update from the Maine Federation of Farmers' Markets, the organization that manages the Maine Harvest Bucks program.
Now that the funding from the USDA FINI grant has been confirmed for the next three years, we will be handing out new vouchers.
We will also be able to accept vouchers with the 3/31/2019 expiration date
anytime through 2021!
