This Week at the Market....

FIRE FLOWER GARDEN AND POTTERY

Fire Flower Garden and Pottery is all done at market for 2019. Dahlias and callas are dug up and being packed away for the winter, gardens are being cleaned up to prepare for winter and next spring. See you in May 2020. Thanks to all for a great season. Have a good and restful winter!
APPLETON CREAMERY

“Pearlie” says thank you to everyone who came out to the farm for Open Creamery Day on Sunday! It was glorious weather and the foliage did not disappoint. We had record sales and visitors, but never fear, there is still plenty of cheese for Friday market. Please forgive me if I’m running a little late — the interns have fled like the leaves are falling. I don’t move as fast as I did 25 years ago when we began! I’ve got the milking herd down to 40, but that’s still a lot of goats. The goats will be dry by early December, so consider stocking up. Come talk to me about which cheeses will freeze well and which have good shelf life. Of course, thanks to jersey milk from Springdale Farm, we will have cows milk cheeses all winter!

Belfast Farmers' Market Needs Your Help!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Do you have 2 hours available on an occasional Friday morning?
Do you want to support the markets' efforts to provide low-income shoppers with access to local food? Perhaps you appreciate the convenience of having the option to use your credit card at market? Maybe you just enjoy and value the Belfast Farmers' Market community and would be willing to give us an extra hand.  We are looking for a few additional volunteers to staff the market info booth this summer. Currently, we have a fabulous group of volunteers who tirelessly show up every Friday morning and work 2-4 hour shifts at the info booth, but we need more help for the bustling summer months. Volunteer duties include: welcoming shoppers, providing EBT/SNAP and credit card customers with clipboards for shopping, adding up shopping sheets, swiping customer cards on the markets' wireless machine, distributing Maine Harvest Bucks and answering general questions about the market.
No experience necessary, just a friendly and positive attitude.
Contact Marcia at Peacemeal Farm (peacemealfarm@gmail.com) for more details.
MAINE HARVEST BUCKS UPDATE
We just received an update from the Maine Federation of Farmers' Markets, the organization that manages the Maine Harvest Bucks program.
Now that the funding from the USDA FINI grant has been confirmed for the next three years, we will be handing out new vouchers.
We will also be able to accept vouchers with the 3/31/2019 expiration date
anytime through 2021!
