USA RUGBY

'We Need More Games': USA Rugby Eyes Future in the Pacific Rim, and Wants NZ Rugby's Help
  • Takeaway: USA Rugby chief executive Ross Young shared his thoughts about USA Rugby's struggle to play in regular competitions.
    • Quote: "We as a union struggle getting connectivity with the American psyche, because we are not playing in a meaningful league competition. What can we win as the US Eagles? Sevens has achieved a bit of that because we’ve been successful, and we're part of a regular competition. We’re getting there with the women playing alongside New Zealand, Australia and Canada in that Pack Four competition - it almost becomes the women's version of the Rugby Championship."
  • Takeaway: USA Rugby chief executive Ross Young shared that USA Rugby is talking with World Rugby about redesignating as a southern hemisphere nation.
    • Quote: "The lack of regular games for the likes of Fiji and Japan, Samoa, Canada etc, that sort of Pacific Rim type championship is the thing to me that makes the most logical sense for our involvement.”
