Welcome!

You are now a member for life of the Drone Valley Brewery, a community benefit society based in Unstone, Derbyshire. As a member of the society, you also own a share in the brewery.

With the current Covid19 situation, all involvement of volunteers in brewing and bottling has had to stop, and at the moment the brewery tap is not opening each Saturday. I've left the usual 'members welcome' info below as we all hope it will not be too long before we can resume normal operations and engagement with the S18 community.

In the meantime, the best way to enjoy the brewery and help it survive at this difficult time is to buy the beers. As a member you can use the online shop to purchase for local delivery*. Click the button below to take you straight there.

Now you’ve joined, get involved…

The Drone Valley Brewery is owned and run by its members with three key aims – to brew good beer, to support the local community, and to give all profit to local good causes. All members are welcome and encouraged to be involved in the brewery. Providing opportunities for volunteering to all members of the local community is a key local benefit of the brewery.

Enjoy the products

Well, it’s probably the most obvious way to get involved! Buy and enjoy our beer. We produce a wide range of real ales, brewed in small batches using quality ingredients. Draught beers are sold through local trade outlets, pubs and clubs. Our bottled beers (some cold filtered, others bottle conditioned) are sold through local retail outlets. We also sell draught beer and bottles from the brewery tap, our small facility located at the brewery in Unstone.

Promote the brewery

Your brewery is a local volunteer-run organisation, and we cannot invest a lot in advertising. We rely on customers and our members to do a great job of spreading the word about the good products and the local benefits of the brewery as a community benefit society.

Be an active volunteer

You can get involved in all aspects of the brewery operations. Brewing involves preparing the malts and hops, mashing in, boiling the wort, and transfer into the fermenting vessel; with lots of washing and digging-out and cleaning to make sure the process is smooth and successful. Once a beer has fermented, you can be involved in racking out: filling casks, labelling, and stacking for storage, and then cleaning the fermenting vessel. You can also be involved in cask delivery to local outlets, and collecting empties; and also the cask preparation and washing ready for the next fill.

Volunteers are also involved in bottling our bottle conditioned beers: preparing the bottles, fillings, capping, labelling, boxing, and stacking. Also bottles, like the casks, need delivering to local outlets.

Volunteers are also crucial to maintain the brewery. As well as regular cleaning and tidying associated with brewing, racking, bottling, and deliveries, we have a programme of regular maintenance and improvements for the brewery building and equipment.

We have a regular opening on Saturdays, 11am-4pm, at the brewery tap to sell bottles and draught beer. We also run a number of pop-up bars and stalls during the year at local events, selling bottles and often also draught beer. Volunteers are always welcome to help set-up and tear-down the pop-up bars at the start and end of the day, and to work during the day on the bar promoting and selling our beers and talking to people about the brewery.

As with any organisation, there are also business operations where you can be involved. Members who can help with specialisms such as finance, VAT, licensing, annual reports, IT, health & safety, graphic design, websites, and e-commerce, are always welcome. Also you have experience of brewing, in the trade or as an enthusiastic amateur, please let us know.

Visit the Brewery
we're often open during the week when brewing or bottling, and the brewery tap is always open on Saturday afternoons to sell draught beer and bottles
The brewery is in an industrial unit beside the river at the north end of Unstone. Follow the narrow track down between the car wash area and the old stone building. When the Brewery Tap is open (Saturday afternoons) our sign should be out on the pavement at the side of the main road. The main Sheffield-Chesterfield bus route runs on this road.

As a member we'd like to keep a small amount of personal data about you, just to keep in touch with you. We will never sell or give this information to any third-party for sales or marketing purposes.

We primarily keep in touch with members through email and in order to be an engaged member, receiving information and updates about your brewery, we ask that you share an email address with us, which we will use to contact you. If you wish to add, change, or delete your email address, at any time, please contact secretary@dronvalleybrewery.com

For practical reasons, if you become an active member by volunteering to help with the operations of the brewery, it would be useful if you also share a mobile phone number with us, so our volunteer groups can communicate through messaging and calls as appropriate. If you wish to add, change, or delete your mobile phone number, at any time, please contact secretary@dronvalleybrewery.com

Where DVB provides to members the contact details (email or mobile phone) of other members, they will only use them for the same purposes that DVB maintains them, that is to keep in contact about brewery-specific activities.
