GREEN YOUR CLEANING
Getting ready for holiday company? Cleaning like a fiend?
Try some simple ingredients and tools that are safe and effective:
1) Scouring powder: Baking soda and salt with a hot water rinse.
2) Disinfectant: Borax or soap and hot water.
3) Drain cleaner: Boiling water and a rubber plunger or plumber's snake.
4) Furniture polish: Mineral oil or olive oil mixed with a little lemon juice,
5) Floor cleaner: Castile soap and hot water.
6) Oven cleaner: Be proactive and line your over with foil. WIpe up spills after each use.
7) Tile / tub cleaner: Baking soda, with a cut lemon for removing stains.
8) Air freshener: Open windows periodically to allow air flow.
9) Window cleaner: White vinegar (grandma was right!)
10) Antibacterial soap: Generally not needed, but tea tree oil or borax have mild antibacterial properties.
Lemon-Mint Window Wash
Juice of 2 lemons.
4 cups water.
1 tsp peppermint essential oil.
2 tsp cornstarch
Mix well, pour into plastic spray bottle. Shake well before using. Best with newspaper to scrub and shine windows.
Lavender & Tea Tree Oil Cleaner
1 tsp borax.
2 Tbsp white vinegar.
2 cups hot water.
1/4 tsp lavender essential oil.
3 drops tea tree oil.
Mix well, until fully dissolved. Pour into spray bottle. Shake well before using. Disinfects surfaces, wipes out / discourages mold. Scrub and rinse with a clean, damp cloth. Avoid glass.

a local non-profit that provides basic services including meals, social services, medical support, clothing and other assistance to the homeless in Silver Spring. Find a list of accepted donation items here. Admission $10

WRAP TOYS. Visit Santa’s Workshop in December to help sort and wrap gifts.
The dates for the SuperWrap Days start December 13th and will be posted on www.MHPartners.org
DELIVER GIFTS on Christmas Eve.
After all the gifts are collected and wrapped, you can help Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad, to deliver the gifts door-to-door in Wheaton on December 24th from 6:00 - 9:00 pm.
MHP conducts one of the largest toy drives in Montgomery County in partnership with the Wheaton & Kensington Chamber of Commerce and Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad. In its 16th year, the Angels for Children Toy Drive collects, wraps and delivers 1,200 new toys, books and games to children at Pembridge Square, Amherst Square and Amherst Gardens apartments in Wheaton.
Spotlight: Wheaton's Clean and Safe Team
Did You Know?
Take a walk through downtown Wheaton and you'll see a variety of “special touches” provided by a dedicated team of Urban District staff. The Clean and Safe teams (recognizable by their red shirts) provide landscaping, maintenance and concierge services to the businesses and patrons in the Urban District. They make Wheaton a better place to live, visit and do business by improving the appearance of the downtown and fostering a safe and inviting environment.
Clean & Safe Team Members:
Patrol downtown Wheaton to ensure a clean and safe environment.
Offer 'buddy" escorts to and from parked vehicles and other locations.
Provide information and directions.
Administer emergency First Aid & CPR.
Respond to emergency situations and contact the appropriate agencies.
Provide jump starts and vehicle assistance.
Maintain landscaping and planters.
Clear sidewalks of snow and debris
Remove building graffiti.
Clean Team members are available Mon-Fri, 7:00am to 3:30pm.
Safe Team Members are available Mon-Sat, 1:00pm to 11:30pm, and Sun 10:00am to 8:30pm.

GreenWheaton is seeking a Bookkeeper for approximately 10-20 hours per month. This position is open to all.
Candidate must have excellent computer skills, including a background working with spreadsheets, accounting systems and database experience, as well as a keen attention to detail to ensure integrity of reporting.
Duties include (but are not limited to):

- Responsible and timely completion of the month end general ledger transactions
- Preparation of reports and backup, as needed, for the annual external audit.
- Preparation and filing of tax annual returns
- Assist the Treasurer in the creation and presentation of quality effective accounting training for staff
- Reporting to the Treasurer monthly
