Walk and Envision
the Future of Wheaton
this Sat.
10am -12 pm

Join us to hear, learn and participate in what the future holds
for our diverse community.

Envision Wheaton’s Future

The tour will explore the opportunities and challenges in creating a vibrant urban district, particularly in light of the upcoming redevelopment in Wheaton’s urban core. We hope to focus on a number of issues this year, including re-development, transportation, housing, arts & entertainment, and pedestrian safety/walkability. This tour will also provide a chance for the Wheaton community to meet elected officials and key county and state staff. Register here for update and exact location information.

Stay after the walk to join photographer/artist Joanne Miller for an artist walking tour, too!

Tree Montgomery
Visits GreenDrinks

GreenWheaton would like to say a hearty thanks to Evan Keto for joining us at GreenDrinks on April 28 at Hollywood East Café. Evan is an ISA-certified arborist and program manager for Tree Montgomery in the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection. His team is searching for places to plant shade trees, especially in yards of single family homes, parking lots, and multi-family communities. The best part: they will plant and maintain each tree for two years, FREE of CHARGE!!!  Funding for the program comes from the county’s tree canopy law, which charges developers who cut trees from building sites.  This is also a different program from the one that provides trees along roads; tree Montgomery trees are planted with the yard not the right-of-way near sidewalks.

Wheaton Raingarden
Gets a New Home

On April 23 a group of volunteers moved Wheaton's raingarden from Reedie Triangle to Veteran's Park. Special thanks to everyone who showed up and helped dig in to make the new plants feel at home behind the Safeway!  And also, special thanks to Joanne Miller who took lots of beautiful photographs of the day, including this one, below.

Thanks for Making GreenFest a Success!

Cloudy skies and cool temperatures did not deter the crowds from coming out to learn how to go green at the Montgomery County GreenFest on April 30 in Takoma Park.  Hundreds came out to buy native plants, speak with environmental business owners, talk with educational exhibitors and learn about sustainability.  There was even a nature walk and a photography lecture and pop-up gallery featuring photos by local artist Joanne Miller.
