"IN THE SEAT OF THE KINGDOM" - new paintings and prints by Shag

Opening 6pm to 8pm Friday 17 February - MELBOURNE OPENING

We're excited to be welcoming back to Australia Southern Californian artist Josh Agle AKA Shag for shows in Melbourne and Sydney. This will be Shag's 10th exhibition in Australia with the artist first showing with Outré back in 1997, and his first solo show with us in 1999. Shag has just announced this will be his last solo exhibition anywhere in the world for the next couple of years so make sure you don't miss this one!

Describing the theme of the exhibition, Shag says this: "Each painting in the show is inspired by a specific mid-century designer.  It’s a subject I’ve played around the edges with in the past, but I have never really paid tribute to the men and women who designed the furnishings that are an ever present fixture in my paintings. I’ve had the pleasure of visiting the homes and studios of some of these people, like the American designers Charles and Ray Eames and the Australian designer Grant Featherston, and that is what spurred the idea behind this group of paintings".

As with previous shows in our ongoing popular series of Small Walls exhibitions, each of these events was a celebration of art being made here in Australia. Drinks for both openings were supplied by the wonderful folk at Feral Brewing. Thanks for their continued support of the arts! For those who weren't able to make the openings, both shows are available for viewing online, with select pieces still available for purchase. David's show can be seen HERE and Kitaya's show HERE.
