Medina Lions Club
        P.O. Box 147
Medina, Tennessee  38355

Chartered on March 21, 1946, Medina Lions Club celebrated its 70th year of service on March 21, 2016. The club donates to many local charities throughout the year by raising money through various projects. The best known Medina Lions event is the annual Medina Lions Club Haunted Farm.

In recognition of our 70th anniversary and 100th anniversary of Lions Clubs International, the Medina Lions purchased a new score board for the baseball field located downtown at the corner of Church and Main Streets. Also, this park will be renamed to We Serve Park to avoid confusion with the Lions Park located on down the street. The score board, at a cost of $3,000.00, is made possible by fund raisers such as the Medina Haunted Farm. If you look around Medina, you will more than likely see something the Lions club has had a part in.

The Medina Lions Club meets at 6:30 pm the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Medina Civic Center downtown. “We have a mixed variety of membership from business owners, bank executives, accountant, doctor, financial advisor, attorney, retirees, sales people, ministers”, said Lions member Clayton White. Clayton stressed the importance of the Lions Mission Statement which states, ‘To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs’.

On February 9, 2017, the club will be hosting a membership drive. If you are interested in joining Lions or just want to visit and learn more, you may contact Clayton White at 731-783-3026 or through email at clayton1.white@hotmail.com or John Hughey at 901-605-3947.

Thanks, Medina Lions Club, for your support of the Chamber and all you do for Gibson County!

David Hayes, President and CEO of Security Bank, announced last week the promotion of Bill Joyner to Senior Vice President-Gibson County Retail Market Executive. Joyner will be concentrating on growing Security Bank’s business and broadening the bank’s client focus.

Congratulations Bill! Thanks for all you do for Trenton and Gibson County!

Board Member Spotlight

Board Member Name:  Emily Sullivan
Company Name: Gibson Electric Membership Corporation
Position: Vice President, Economic Development & Community Relations
Work Phone: 731-855-4740, ext. 1610
Email: esullivan@gibsonemc.com

Areas of Expertise:
I work at Gibson EMC, a rural electric cooperative formed in 1936 and currently serving more than 38,000 members over 3,500 miles of line in eight northwest Tennessee counties (Crockett, Dyer, Gibson, Haywood, Lake, Lauderdale, Madison and Obion) and four southwest Kentucky counties (Carlisle, Hickman, Fulton and Graves).  Our corporate office is in Trenton, and member service centers are located in Alamo, Medina, Tiptonville, Trenton and Troy, Tennessee, and in Hickman, Kentucky.   I have 27 years of experience in providing energy solutions to Gibson EMC members, and 17 years in assisting with business retention and expansion efforts.

Other Interests:
I enjoy music, movies and books, but my favorite moments include leisurely visits with the family, particularly with the grandkids.

Why did you join the Chamber?
Electric cooperatives all operate according to the same set of core principles and values. Chamber of commerce membership and active participation easily falls under our 7th Cooperative Principle, Concern for Community.  I’m not sure how many decades Gibson EMC has been a member of Greater Gibson County Area Chamber of Commerce, but I suspect membership goes back to its predecessor (Trenton Chamber of Commerce).  I personally believe in the non-profit Chamber of Commerce model as a proven means to attract and grow businesses, and to improve economic climate and quality of life.

Why do you serve on the Board of Directors?
I volunteered with the Chamber for several years and also completed the Gibson County Adult Leadership program before being asked to serve on the board in the early 2000’s.  I returned to the board in 2015, and currently I’m serving in the office of Vice President. It’s an honor for all of us to serve in the policy-making roles of chamber board members, and we take our responsibility very seriously.  It’s also a pleasure to act as advisors to Executive Director Libby Wickersham, and to be able to report that through her leadership our chamber is increasing membership and adding valuable programs throughout a very large geographic area (Yorkville, Kenton, Rutherford, Dyer, Trenton, Gibson, Bradford and Medina).

Does your business have one of these signs?  If not, call the Chamber Office (855-0973) to find out how you can get yours.
