Workshop on eVTOL Defining Challenges for Urban Air Mobility:
Infrastructure, Airspace Management and System Safety

The Vertical Flight Society is hosting a workshop on the "defining challenges" of electric VTOL aircraft, Sept. 10-12, at the US Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. This three-day workshop is focused on the biggest barriers that need to be solved to realize the potential of eVTOL for urban air mobility (UAM), including what key organizations are working on and looking for any gaps or overlaps in standards developments.

Registration is now open! We made the rates extra low to maximize the educational opportunity.

  • US Federal Govt Employees and Speakers: $150
  • VFS Members: $300
  • Non-Members: $400 (includes 1 year of VFS membership)

All registration rates will increase by $50 on August 31 if there are still seats left. Note: since this is a working meeting, members of the press cannot attend.

There are a limited number of sponsorships available. Go to www.vtol.org/DC for more information.

GoFly Prize Phase III Deadline

The GoFly Prize has issued its challenge to innovators around the world to create a personal flyer. New teams are being accepted until Oct 1. Join GoFly to win nearly $2M and change the world.

The Challenge: Design and build a safe, quiet, ultra-compact, near-VTOL personal flying device capable of flying 20 miles while carrying a single person.

Electric Aircraft Symposium Videos & Synopsis Available

NEXA Advisors Completes Landmark Urban Air Mobility Study

NEXA Advisors and the Vertical Flight Society announce the completion of a comprehensive year-long study, Urban Air Mobility—Economics and Global Markets. The groundbreaking NEXA report, undertaken in a partnership with VFS, contains forecasts for 74 metropolitan areas over the period of 2020 – 2040. The online databases include thousands of geocoded data features and characteristics of each city, as well as the study’s findings on their potential market for urban air mobility (UAM). Included on these web pages are custom ArcGIS maps of each city. The public can explore the deep city-level analysis available, using New York City as an example, at www.nexa-uam.com.

Read our press release for more on the conclusions and the importance of this landmark report.

NEXA will make the first public presentation of the study at the upcoming VFS Workshop on eVTOL Defining Challenges for Urban Air Mobility.

Deadline for Abstracts on Transformative Vertical Fight is Aug. 19

Calling all authors! Are you working on research related to aeromechanics, fixed-wing/powered lift technology and/or electric VTOL? If so, please share with your peers! Last chance to submit your abstract for consideration is Monday, Aug. 19

The Transformative Vertical Flight 2020 will take place in San Jose, California from Jan. 21-23, 2020 promises to be an action-packed 3-day event! It includes the following meetings:
