FROM THE DESK OF THE CEO

Welcome to 2017 and the latest edition of Twilight Connections. This year is certainly off to a flying start at Twilight and I am looking forward to another exciting and eventful 12 months.

The Strategic Plan is progressing well as we continue to focus on the key result areas, including the progression of the refurbishment of Glengarry and planning for the new Jamieson House.

The last few months have been incredibly busy and together we have achieved a great deal in a very short time. In the last few months we have had Glades Bay Gardens receive re-accreditation, the near-completion of Horton House, and staff at all facilities have worked extremely hard to facilitate the smooth relocation and settling of residents into their new homes.

In this edition of our newsletter we will also cover a number of significant events including the introduction of new senior staff members, recognising the contribution of outstanding employees, boosting clinical resources and reinvigorating the leisure and lifestyle program – a busy few months indeed!

This edition also marks the start of our regular ‘foodie’ section where we’ll bring you recipes from the Twilight Kitchen to inspire your taste buds and your culinary skills!

I hope you enjoy reading our January edition and I am looking forward to what promises to be another exciting year of development for Twilight Aged Care.

HORTON HOUSE REOPENS AFTER REBUILD

Horton House at Gordon re-opened on 5 December 2016 after a major rebuild. Residents moved from facilities at Hunters Hill and Beecroft over a five-day period and we are very pleased to report that all the residents have settled in extremely well.

At present we are working on the finishing touches to Horton House to enhance the home-like feel of the building.

The official Horton House re-opening is scheduled for 10.00am - 4.00pm on Saturday 25 March 2017. We have a large team of people working to ensure that this is a wonderful day for all. So please come along – we would love to welcome you and show you around! Further details will be available closer to the date.

PAC4RAC GROUP PASS WITH FLYING COLOURS

Twilight Facility Manager, Clare Banister-Jones and her colleagues in the PAC4RAC project – Providing Appropriate Care for Residents in Aged Care – have now completed the formal/theoretical part of the programme.

All three students graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Redesign and were presented with their award by the NSW Minister for Health, the Honourable Jillian Skinner MP, in a graduation ceremony at The Mint in December last year.

The next stage of the project involves looking at specific diagnoses to determine which conditions can be treated and cared for within the aged care home without the need to call an ambulance, and avoid sending residents to an already crowded emergency department.

Twilight Aged Care, NSW Ambulance, along with Northern Sydney Local Health District are committed to providing ‘The Right Care at the Right Time in the Right Place’ to the residents in Twilight Aged Care. Twilight’s new Facility Manager at Glengarry, Tanya Sourian, will also join also the PAC4RAC project in 2017.

CALLING HUNTERS HILL HOME

Following the move from Jamieson House in Beecroft to Hunters Hill Village last December, residents and staff are feeling more settled as each day passes. Christmas was a quieter affair at the home, which allowed everyone to become familiar with their new surroundings.

Residents who were already residing at Hunters Hill have graciously welcomed their new neighbours. The daily rhythm has been re-established and residents and staff are all looking forward to the new year as they get to know the other residents with whom they share the beautiful site.

GLADES BAY GARDENS ACCREDITATION

On 5 and 6 January 2017, Glades Bay Gardens underwent their accreditation survey and demonstrated that they continue to meet all 44 expected outcomes.

Two assessors spent two days reviewing the service and quality of programs. During the summation the assessors were extremely complimentary, in particular they praised the staff on how they are able to keep residents in their home in such a beautiful way, excellent leadership and team dynamics, inspired staff, and evidence of consistent hard work...
