Special Update From the Facility Manager

Dear Friends and Families,
I wanted to send you a quick update after our wonderful Open Day last Saturday, plus a few other things that are worth mentioning.

OPEN DAY

After all the rain last week, we were fortunate to have a glorious day for our Open Day on Saturday. The day was a huge success for residents and their families plus many new visitors to Glades Bay Gardens.  The feedback has been so rewarding with so many compliments about the Facility, our wonderful staff, the delicious food and the happy environment.  Many thanks to my team for putting on such a lovely day .... and this really was a team effort across all departments; admin, catering, maintenance, cleaning and caring. When the sausages are sizzling and we're busy giving tours to new visitors, the show must go on and the level of care for our residents never drops, so thank you everyone for your support and help in showing off Glades Bay at its best.  If you'd like to see photographs from the day, please go to the Twilight Aged Care facebook page.  Even better, please LIKE us on facebook!

HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY OLIVE

We can't let this week pass by without wishing Olive Gant a very special 100th birthday.  Olive is a very private person and didn't want a party or a fuss but Olive, we send our very warmest wishes to you. Congratulations on reaching such a milestone and many happy returns of the day.

MEDICATION

No one likes to see anyone unwell or in pain but I'm concerned that some family members have been providing medication for our residents.  Of course, this is done with the best intention, but I'm sure you will understand that it can potentially be very dangerous and hazardous. There have been a couple of incidents recently where family members have given medication to a resident who was already receiving the maximum dose from Glades Bay staff.  PLEASE do not provide any medication whatsoever (even simple things like Panadol can be fatal).  If you are concerned about a resident, please don't hesitate to discuss this with a member of staff and we will be sure to address the situation immediately.  Thank you.

SIGN IN AND OUT BOOK

Could I please ask that when taking a resident out of the Facility, you try to remember the following 3 things:

(a) Please use the sign in and out books.  If you use the sign in and out books, we know at a glance who the resident is with and it means we don't have to send out a search party unnecessarily!
(b) If you are taking a resident out, please ask our staff for a Webster pack of their medications so that they can receive the necessary medication at the correct time.
(c) Whilst I understand that there can be a lot to think about, please try to leave the resident's duress/emergency pendant at the Facility if you are going out.
(d) If in doubt, please double check with a staff member. We are here to help!

LIFESTYLE & ACTIVITY PROGRAM

I just wanted to let you know that Alison, our RAO is currently on leave.  Jean-Paul is covering for Alison and accompanying residents on bus trips. If you have any questions regarding our Lifestyle and Activity Program, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

As you can imagine, running a busy Aged Care Facility such as Glades Bay Gardens can be unpredictable and I am often away from my desk. However, Cathy, our Admin Assistant, will be only too happy to arrange an appointment if you'd like to come and see me.

Many thanks and I very much look forward to seeing you soon.
Warm regards,
Kerrin Hunter.
