Horton House, Gordon - Construction Update
We are excited to report that our construction works at Horton House Gordon are progressing well as we rapidly approach the final stages of the project.

Builders are in the process of fitting out the facility with high quality fixtures and finishes including installation of world-class communications systems and safety features.

While unpredictable Sydney weather has set the project back a little, the redevelopment is on track to be completed by mid-November with the aim of having residents settled in by Christmas.

Please read on to find out more about the solid progress made on the redevelopment over the past few months.

Safety Update
The state-of-the-art Elsi floor system is currently being installed in all residential rooms; Elsi floors have inbuilt sensors that allow staff to instantly detect if a resident has had a fall. Gordon will be one of the first aged care facilities in Australia to install this floor sensing system.

As an added safety measure we have used Mediseal – a specially formulated sealant for infection and odour control - in all common area floors throughout the facility and we are currently in the process of applying the highest quality epoxy floor sealer available to all residential rooms; the product ensures that floors are completely level and sealed, reducing falls stemming from uneven floors.
Technology and Communications Update
We are very proud of the sophisticated technology and communications systems at the new Gordon site. Communications hardware has been ordered, including phones, intercoms, nurse call systems, and Smart TVs. We have Cisco Meraki Cloud Managed Wi-Fi access points throughout the facility and we have ensured that the high standard of technology installed will aide in the delivery of very fast internet speed; all electrical wiring has also been completed.

According to Project Manager, Paul Myjavec, “Every form of communication and entertainment infrastructure will be available to all residents."

“A premium Foxtel package will be available in all residential rooms, this will include movies, sport as well as free-to-air. The TVs will all be Smart TVs and will not only be connected to Foxtel,  but to the internet as well allowing residents to access various internet browsers, internet shopping and other online entertainment.”
Bedrooms and Bathrooms Update
We have also installed very hi-tech all-in-one dual bidet/toilets in the bedroom ensuites; they are thermostatically controlled, comfortable and deliver state-of-the art hygiene.

Joinery is being installed and carpet laid in the bedrooms.

Living Areas Update
All living areas are progressing well. The curtain walls are being installed in parts of the common areas; interior decoration including joinery and stylish wood panelling is currently being installed throughout the common areas including corridors, and the all-important activities room which faces the scenic tree-lined outlook. Carpet is also being laid in common areas and painting work is about to commence.

In the new kitchen the range hood, cool room and dry store/pantry have been installed and all appliances and cabinets are due to be installed in the later stages.

The two lifts for the building have just been completed and attractive lighting fixtures have been fitted throughout the building.

Fundermax external cladding in an uplifting colour palette has been applied to most of the external walls of the building to create an impressive street facade; it greatly enhances the building’s modern visual appeal.

Outdoors and Landscaping Update
The landscaping is in the very early stages of construction and will include a bubbling urn water feature and some raised garden beds. There will be more landscaping work to complete in later stages in keeping with the tranquil, leafy surrounds so residents can enjoy their attractive outdoor environment.
The lift is currently being installed in the basement car park. Parking is sometimes at a premium at the facility with the nearby local school and train station, so the new car park facility will be a very welcome addition for staff and residents’ loved ones.

Project Manager’s final word

“The project is on track and it’s a facility which features very high quality finishes throughout such as the beautiful soft furnishings, joinery and hi-tech systems. I am proud of what we’ve achieved and I hope residents will enjoy the final result”

Facility Manager’s Relocation Update
Horton House Facility Manager, Fiona Kelman has begun discussions with ‘Moving on’, the same company who did such an excellent job in relocating our residents from Gordon to Hunters Hill, about escorting them back to their newly upgraded Gordon home once it’s ready.

“We’re excited that the project is nearing completion; I have a number of residents who have told me they can’t wait to get back to Gordon,” Fiona said.
Fiona and her team have been liaising with residents and their loved ones about the redevelopment on an individual basis, but if you have any other enquiries please contact Fiona on (02) 9499 2064 or email:
