THE HH@HH HERALD

August 2015
Firstly, I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Lesley Jordan, our new CEO.  I met Lesley this week at our first Executive Meeting together and am impressed by her collaborative style and vision for the future of Twilight Aged Care.  It is exciting to think of the possibilities of what we might all achieve together and how the Company might look in another ten, twenty or even 100 years! In the meantime, let's focus on the present and continuing to do the best for our residents. Lesley has a lot of people to meet so if you see her, please do introduce yourself and make her welcome.

The Twilight Aged Care Executive Team:  Standing: Paul Ryken, Manager, HR, Anna Maria Nagy, Manager Planning, Kerrin Hunter, Facility Manager, Glades Bay Gardens, Claire Bannister-Jones, Facility Manager Jamieson House, Paul Broadbent, Manager, Finance.  Seated: Carolyn May, Manager, Administrative Services, Fiona Kelman, Facility Manager, Horton House, Lesley Jordan, CEO, Arlie Ambas-Scutts, Facility Manager Glengarry, Margaret Merlin, Manager, Operations.

Secondly, please note that our next Family Liaison Meeting is scheduled for next Monday, 24th August with a 5.30pm for 6pm start.  As you know, this is a great opportunity to hear all the news and ask any questions you may have so I do encourage you to come along, if only for a short while.

Our "old/new" home at Gordon is progressing well.  Unfortunately, we have had 40 rain days which have set things back slightly but our contractors are working hard in the sunshine to make up time. The building is now coming out of the ground and the basement is nearly complete. Preparation has begun on the next stage, pouring of the lower ground floor level concrete.  I'm told that by the end of September, we should start to see the building rise up above the hoardings which will be really exciting.  As I've driven past recently, it's been lovely to think that by this time next year, we may be getting ready to move back in.

In July, long term resident of Hunters Hill Congregational Church Retirement Village, Joy Fitzpatrick, died peacefully. Joy was farewelled at a mass in the local Catholic church, attended by several of our residents and staff members.

In other staff news, I'd like to introduce Hay Blu, who has just transferred to a new role as laundry assistant at Horton House. When Hay applied for the job she didn't have any experience driving a big van which is used to transport the laundry between Horton House and Glades Bay Gardens. So .... she hired a van for the weekend, did a special driving course and got the experience she needed for the job. Congratulations Hay. We feel very fortunate to have someone so dedicated and so determined working with us at Horton House.

I am also delighted that Dhruba Nyaupane is now our permanent cleaner, five days a week. Dhruba has been working with us for some time and is always so conscientious and positive so we're thrilled to have him around a bit more!

Sandy says ...

The warmer weather will soon be approaching and already residents are starting to enjoy the sun during little walks and sitting in the garden. We recently had the pleasure of visiting Glades Bay Gardens but unfortunately on this occasion we were unable to have a grand tour. We're looking forward to going back in the not too distant future and having a look around and imaging how our new Gordon Home will look.

As part of our holistic care, we recently introduced aromatherapy to Horton House.  We're using safe, aromatherapy burners which give a lovely, calming fragrance throughout the communal rooms and we're also using the essences in hand massage.  We are already seeing the benefits for some of our residents, particularly at sun down time.

We are also looking forward to introducing Art Therapy into our Lifestyle Program for residents. Watch this space for more news.

We had a pooch farewell party which included 4 dogs and their owners.  Michelle McNamara who lived previously at Hunters Hill has left us to reside at Dee Why. Then we welcomed our newest resident Ron Kennedy.

Cecily is continuing to provide residents with a much looked-forward- to session playing the piano and other instruments, encouraging interaction among residents with positive results.
John’s Tai-Chi is also enjoyed by many every week.Bus trips of course are a perennial highlight with cognitive residents enjoying their all day outings whilst others enjoy scenic drives to Centennial Park feeding the ducks, Bobbin Head and other scenic water views. We have recently introduced a new entertainer, Helen James who sings fabulous songs from the  50’s 60’s 70’s 80’s and 90’s.

See you soon!
