GAZETTE

May 2015
What an exciting and busy time we've had at Glengarry.  In April, we were especially proud to welcome the Prime Minister who was kind enough to meet some of our staff and residents.  There's a full round up of our news further in this newsletter.  Anzac Day was very special this year as the Centenary coincided with Twilight Aged Care's own 100 year celebrations.  As always, please come and see me if there is anything you would like to talk about - my door is always open - and you are most welcome.

PLEASE NOTE:
Our next Family Liaison Meeting is on Monday, the 4th of May at 6pm.  I do hope you can join us.

From the RAO Team

We had a very successful Australia Day BBQ in January of this year. The Karinya Garden was abuzz with all the residents participating and enjoying the event; listening to Australian country music as they enjoyed the beautiful food prepared by our staff. Our menu included steak, BBQ chicken, lamb, a selection of salads and lamingtons and pavlova for dessert. Everyone enjoyed sitting in the garden under the marquee. We had a large number of guests who came to join us and we also welcomed some of the Twilight Aged Care executive management team.

On Valentine's Day everyone was spoilt with flowers and chocolates as well as free hugs and kisses for those who wanted them!  The Facility was decorated green with resident artwork for St. Patrick's Day.  The menu continued the green theme .... including the drinks! We had Irish music and dancing plus an Irish trivia quiz.

Earlier this month, Max Woods celebrated his 100th Birthday with a bang! Morning Tea was held with all the residents plus some of Max's family, including his grandchildren, who had travelled to see him. We then hosted a huge birthday celebration in the afternoon with almost 40 guests from all over Australia including Glen Innes and Armidale.  We had a big banner, 100 Balloons for Max and a cake with a 3D Max!!.

Susan, Max’s daughter took a punt and invited the Prime Minister, The Hon Tony Abbott, MP, to drop by for a cuppa to help Celebrate Max's birthday, and the Centenary of Twilight Aged Care.  So on 7th April, the Prime Minister visited Glengarry to have morning tea; a great honour for all of us.

Max was born on March 25, 1915, exactly a month before the Gallipoli landing and two months before the first Twilight Home was opened in Mosman. He is a War Veteran, a land and environmental conservationist, an Honorary Fellow and Master of Rural Science at the University of New England, and so much more!!  Max, we wish you continued good health and send our love and best wishes.

Whilst he was at Glengarry, the Prime Minister also took time to say hello to residents and staff.  He was welcomed by Ms Jill Salmon into the lounge area and was happy to catch up with an old friend, our very own Judge Richard Conti... before being told by Mrs. Gloria Lachter to turn the lights off on his way out – which he did!
