MAKING IT POZIBLE

JMC Academy was inspired by a group of young Melbournians who created and developed an event concept in support of Melbourne Music Week. 'Tram Sessions', a not-for-profit project, organises and films impromptu, guerilla-style performance gigs on Melbourne trams for unsuspecting, albeit lucky commuters.

Tram Sessions, fuelled solely by passionate volunteers including JMC Academy student Rommel Henricus, needed JMC Academy's support to continue their amazing project. So after calling on our Facebook fans to help spread the word of Rommel's Pozible campaign, what began as a request to have 1500 people share the quest in order to secure JMC Academy's $1500 donation, turned into something far greater.

Within one week the story had over 1600 shares and with our donation, Tram Sessions reached their $7000 goal. "Thanks so much JMC Academy! We appreciate this more than you can imagine and it means a lot to us and our campaign. We can't wait to have you all on a session real soon!" - 'Rommel Henricus, Tram Sessions.
BIGSOUND WRAP UP

Following nominations from Brisbane Heads of Department, music student Tim Orchard was chosen to attend and cover the BIGSOUND conference on behalf of JMC Academy. Over the three days, armed with an ' all access' pass, Tim participated in highly relevant industry forums and some insightful keynote Q & A's with artists and managers. At the top of Tim's list, was his engagement with industry personnel ranging from artists, Triple J presenters and representatives, festival directors and music businesses.

Tim noted "There is something amazing about a face-to-face experience. It allows networking to be more personal when the person you endeavour to contact in the future has a name, face and interesting or funny story you can relate back to. It provided me with an amazing experience, one that I will look back on with the biggest of smiles. I will definitely be returning to BIGSOUND in 2013".

JESS DUNBAR LAUNCHES NEW EP

Singer, songwriter and JMC Academy student Jess Dunbar is an alternative-folk artist from Sydney with a unique musical style, and ability to turn heads. Her intricate harmonies and guitar picking melodies are captivating in her new EP “Fools March” which was launched to a packed house at the Vanguard on the 8th of November.

Writing music since she was a young girl, Jess recorded the album in her third year at JMC Academy, with four fellow classmates. Since recording the album, Jess has not looked back and credits JMC Academy for building her confidence, business knowledge, musicianship and composition skills. Jess adds "becoming complacent with your music talent is simply not enough".

JMC Academy congratulates Jess and wishes her all the success for her future. Watch her behind the scenes video here.
JMC ACADEMY STUDENTS GET HANDS-ON

JMC Academy students from all disciplines recently geared up for the 'best of the best' annual JMC Academy events. While the Entertainment Business Management students developed marketing strategies, communication plans and undertook event management projects, the Film and Television students were submitting their best films to a panel of industry judges for the JMC Academy Martini Awards.

This year Sydney and Melbourne introduced an Animation and Game Design exhibition that featured outstanding concept sketches, drawings, short films and game prototypes. To view all images and the wrap-up of all 7 successful student events nationally, we urge you to visit www.facebook.com/jmcacademy.

ARIA NOMINATION

Congratulations to JMC Academy lecturer Rick Grossman and his band the Hoodo Gurus for their nomination as BEST AUSTRALIAN LIVE ACT at the ARIA Awards.

The band Temper Trap, which JMC Academy students have previously filmed for TheMusic and Warner, also won BEST ROCK ALBUM at the awards last night.

ALUMNI IN FOCUS

The votes are in!

In case you missed it, JMC Academy graduate Mark Brightwell was featured in our last Alumni in Focus for the production of RAW THE MOVIE, a film based on Mark's passion for surfing.

We are proud to announce that the film recently won the New York Surf Film Festival 2012 award for BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY.

The success of the film has also lead Brightwell and fellow creative, Cohan Banfield, to secure a worldwide distribution deal with RAW, currently screening in selected Event and Hoyts Cinemas nationwide.

You can read more of Mark's story here.

TOUR OF NEW CAMPUS

Over 140 Careers Advisors from Sydney Schools were invited as the first group to tour JMC Academy's brand new, purpose built campus in Ultimo. With brand new professional recording studios, digital media and animation labs, a film and television green screen studio, fully fitted rehearsal studios, and an on campus auditorium, the careers advisors were vastly impressed.

The new campus will be opening its doors for the Sydney open day on the 21st of January.
