Celebrating 20 Years of Environmental Education!

Oklahoma Project WILD Coordinator Lisa Anderson celebrated her 20th anniversary with the wildlife based environmental education program last September.  WILD facilitators rewarded her with a card shower, sending dozens of congratulatory notes and cards of appreciation over the course of the month.  At the same time, a core group of volunteers led by Joe Rackley began soliciting quilt squares for a celebratory gift.  Over the course of six months, they completed a king-size quilt made up of 12”x12” blocks representing memories, events, and people from Lisa’s 20 years with Oklahoma environmental education.  Some blocks were quilted or embroidered, others painted and some were iron on transfers and logos from clothing representing the history of Oklahoma Project WILD.   Each quilt block is a work of art and there are two large sections where Lisa can collect signatures and notes from well-wishers.  The quilt was presented at the annual Oklahoma Project WILD facilitator reunion at Camp McFadden on Kaw Lake on March 16th.    Lisa was astonished by the gesture and the fact that over 40 people could keep such a big secret under wraps for 6 months!

April Means Earth Day!

How are you planning to celebrate? The National Environmental Education Foundation has a wealth of resources from photo contests to web seminars to take technology outdoors.  They are encouraging everyone to register an event that celebrates Environmental Education Week, April 14-20.
