Hello all,
Welcome to the February edition of the Club’s newsletter.
After a much welcomed festive season the Club is well and truly back into the swing of things with regards to its sporting operations.
The men’s, women’s and under 19’s football teams have commenced training on Monday and
Thursday evenings at Duncan McKinnon Reserve. Participation numbers have been very good,
particularly with the under 19 players having around 50 players, thus justifying the Club’s decision to run two under 19 teams. All going well it appears that the SFNL will have two divisions for the under 19;s competition.
Our netballers have commenced training at the Tucker RD PS gymnasium with very good numbers that will see us being able to field 4 teams in 2021.
Recently the Club has made two very important additions to its officials ranks. Firstly, former under 19’s B&F and current senior player, Spencer Daly, has been appointed as the Club’s second under 19’s coach and former Bentleigh Juniors Coach, Paul Nankervis, has joined the Club committee heading up the player leadership/development and club culture portfolio. Both of these men are well respected in local community sporting circles and will be most welcomed additions to the Club’s off field personnel.
As mentioned in the January newsletter the Club has initiated a Demon Lotto fundraiser. We are pleased to announce that this fundraiser was fully subscribed resulting in much needed revenue to be available to the Club. The first two of the ten weekly draws have taken place at the Roo Baa on
Thursday nights. Each draw is available for viewing on the Club’s Facebook site.
The Club’s football department has organized practice matches as follows:
March 13 V Mt. Eliza
March 21 V Burwood East
March 27 V Hoppers Crossing
All matches are away and all, with the exception of Burwood East, who has no women’s team, will be for seniors, development team, under 19’s and women’s football.
SENIORS V ST. PAUL’S McKINNON. The senior game will be played as a night match.
The netball will also commence on this day with the fixture yet to be advised.
NOTE: The women’s football season is set to begin on Saturday May 1st . Fixture to be advised.
To what looks like a promising year for our Senior sides, we will be fielding a different look team to that of 2019. With the ramifications of Covid 19 causing a year of no footy played in 2020,  our younger guys are now year older, physically stronger and up for the challenge of 1st Division SFNL.
We would be looking to develop and play at least 6 under 19s at various stages throughout the year, all which will hopefully debut in our March practice games.
We welcome back: Hudson Thomas, Joe Colaciello, Kayne Obrien, and the Wynnne boys. Club Champion Sam McGarry has been training and hopefully gets itchy feet to commit to 2021. Throw in the return of a super fit Jack Firns, Tom Cunningham, Tommy Massey and Jayce Morgan who all missed most of season 2019 through serious injury, and we suddenly look more than competitive.
We also welcome to the club Ben Taberner, Kris Evans, Kyle Monoghan, Tyler Ames and Ryan Morgan along with our extremely large and of course our talented under 19 list. We have many making the transition to seniors of which some will definitely push for senior selection.
Furthermore, with a couple of big names gone, the BFNC will once again fly under the radar and its just the way we like it!!
Go Dees
Netballers held our first pre-season fitness session at the Duncan MacKinnon outdoor courts in perfect conditions.  The focus was on a structured Netball Australia endorsed knee program as warm up to help us in preventing any strains or injuries.  It was great to see a mix of old and new faces and compare how the players fitness journey has faired over COVID.  Bentleigh netballers are ready and raring for season 2021!
Bring on season 2021. We start our campaign to become contenders for the 2021 season. After a horrible 2020 having footy back in our lives is so exciting. Pre season will be tough but we will be at our peak and ready to fire at round 1. We are all looking forward to living life with football back into it and looking forward to becoming a genuine chance to go all the way this season. Let's train hard, improve on our weakness', focus on being the best we can be and ensure we make ourselves very difficult to beat no matter who our opponent may be.

Go Dee's
The Under 19s have come back to training eager and ready to go. It is pleasing to see a sold fitness level was maintained by the players over the break.
We are excited by the transition of many players coming up from the Bentleigh Junior Football Club and many new players to the club who have all slotted into our program really well.
The under 19s will be having a information night on Monday February 15.
We are also looking forward to a professional boxing/sports psych session aswell as a pre-season day camp later in the month.
BJFC is back in business for 2021. Junior players now can register via for season 2021 in all age groups for both boys and girls. During the off season we had quite a lot of changes in relation to our Committee. Paul Jemmeson handed over the President’s role to Dean Crawford for Season 2021.Jemmo had been an awesome contributor in this role and has bled red and blue passion for our club for many years. His friendly nature, enthusiastic personality, and his emphasis on making sure the kids are enjoying footy had been sensational. He has fought hard and represented BJFC within the South Metro Junior Football League Community with pride and enhanced our reputation amongst other clubs. Luckily, he will stay on and take on a new challenge at BJFC as our Head of Coaching and Football Operations this season. Congrats to Crawf for taking on this new role and continuing the legacy that Jemmo and others have developed over the years. As well two longserving Committee members Connie Coles & Kylie Dowsing have stepped down from there formal positions within the club, but will still assist in some capacity to ensure a smooth transition period. Bring on the footy in 2021.

Happy New Year to all BFNC members , Proud Partners,  Premiership club members and all associated with  our great club .
It’s 2021 and the Dragon Club are keen to get back to work in support of the club and our community.
While there was no footy or netball in 2020 we still had our work cut out for us .
The uncertainty of the whole year  and indeed this year made planning ,conversations and projections very difficult.
Many of our magnificent Proud Partners had difficult and uncertain years to varying degrees and we took the decision to reach out and offer support and converse where appropriate but for the most part leave them to focus on their business’s.
Now that we are through Christmas our first official Dragon Club meeting for 2021 is this Friday at Lamaro’s Hotel in Sth Melbourne .
We with be making contact with all Proud  Partners and exploring all other opportunities by the end of February as well as looking to formalize our calendar of events and initiatives for 2021.
Should any of you know of  a business that might benefit from or be interested in joining our great network please contact myself or Sarah Radlow .
Wishing you all the very best for 2021  and looking forward to sharing some time back at the club.
Yours sincerely .
Brett Marshall
Dragon Club Chairman.
