Earth Day-April 22, 2012

Here are a few Earth Day facts~
  • Recycling one aluminum can saves energy equivalent to half a gallon of gasoline.
  • Earth Day is a relatively new holiday and was first celebrated on April 22 in 1970 when more than 20 million Americans participated!
  • Never underestimate the importance of recycling: if every newspaper was recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year.
  • More than 20,000,000 Hershey's Kisses are wrapped each day, using 133 square miles of tinfoil - all recyclable.
  • Only 11% of the earth's surface is used to grow food.
  • The world's first national park was started in 1872 - Yellowstone National Park.
Rember to join us for First Friday, April 6th in downtown South Bend where this month's theme is "Mystery in the City".

First Friday Local Artist

Liz Zapf will be in the shop making art yarns with her spinning wheel.  She will be offering free lessons to all ages on how to make yarn on a drop spindle so you can make your very own yarn bracelet to wear home.  Liz's studio is located on the 2nd floor of Just Goods and will be open for anyone who would like to see and feel raw, washed, prepared and dyed wools as well as many other types of fibers which can be spun, felted, knitted and loved.  There will be a selection of yarns, knitting needles, spindles, and fibers for felting or spinning available for purchase.
