There’s Still Hope
|
By Joni Ames
I don’t tell my “stuff“ a lot, but when I returned to the Carolinas almost 5 years ago, my hope was pretty low, if not gone. I had somebody in my life that had gaslighted me pretty bad. For those of you who don’t know what that means, that’s when somebody continually tricks you and then makes you think you are the crazy one. It’s a term adopted from an old movie called, “Gaslight.”
I was so confused that I could not think straight. My daughter helped me by suggesting I move back to the Carolinas where I had previously happily lived for many years. So then I was trying to decide whether I wanted to live in Charlotte, North Carolina or just south of the NC/SC border into South Carolina.
My finances had been completely drained. The South Carolina side proved to be the less expensive and thus most practical choice, so I did that. Sometimes when we have no direction, we just have to do the sensible thing and use the brain God gave us.
It turned out that choice was pretty incredible and very prophetic. When I went to get my new vehicle license plate, I discovered that South Carolina’s motto is, “While I breathe, I hope.” I desperately needed hope. Even if it was just on my license plate to start.
The license plate number was RBF 316. I knew the 316 represented John 3:16. When I asked the Lord what RBF stood for he said, “Real Best Friend. I’M your REAL best friend, and YOU are MINE.”
God begin to give me all kinds of scriptures on hope…
Abraham, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken. So shall your descendants be. (Romans 4:18)
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. (Romans 5:5 KJV)
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (Romans 5:5 NKJV)
If you are in need of hope today, please know that the God of Hope hears your heart and is giving it to you. My prayer for you is this scripture in Romans 15:13:
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, (so) that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
May you also remember that the Lord Himself is your best friend, and that while you breathe, you also have hope.
