| | | IT’S ALL ABOUT WOMEN THIS WEEK This week we have some absolutely must-see, all about women events on at Cowra Civic Centre. Firstly, we welcome Amelia Ryan and Libby O’Donovan in a cabaret show that celebrates the unsung women in Australian music rock’n’roll history in Unsung (I Am Woman). And then we welcome the touring production of Shirley Valentine, one of the most successful and well known one-woman plays of the last 40 years. Tickets for both shows are very affordable and we encourage you to bring a friend or family member who might need a great night out of live entertainment. And or course, we have two amazing cinema sessions - Top Dog Film Festival - a series of short films all about our favourite four-legged friends, and Franklin - a documentary giving us insight into the environmental campaign to protect the Franklin River in Tasmania. We hope you have a great week of entertainment with us at Cowra Civic Centre. See you soon! Jonathan Cowra Civic Centre | | THIS WEEK LIVE ON STAGE | | UNSUNG (I AM WOMAN)On a hot summer’s day in 1965, Merle Thornton and Rosalie Bogner walked into the public bar of the Regatta Hotel in Brisbane, calmly chained themselves to the bar rail, and ordered a beer. What happened next would change the course of Australian history - and a little less obviously - the course of music in Australia for women, forever.
Join award-winning cabaret powerhouses Amelia Ryan and Libby O’Donovan, In a rollicking, raucous celebration of songs and stories from 1960s Australia. Wednesday 7 September at 11am and 7:30pm | |

Sunday 11 September at 4:30pm Wednesday 14 September at 10am | | | COMING SOON | ![Good Luck To You, Leo Grande | Official Trailer | 2022 [HD]](https://dim.mcusercontent.com/cs/0cd1572f9659bbd20a6ebf0b9/video_thumbnails_new/b9431f9c4f1324b1cfde6de72c8d0eea.png?w=564&dpr=2) | GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE M - Sexual themes, sex scenes, nudity and coarse language | 97 mins | $14* Nancy Stokes, a retired school teacher and widow, is yearning for some adventure, some human connection, and some sex. Good sex. Whilst her husband Robert provided a home, a family, something resembling a life, good sex was never on offer. But he’s gone now, and Nancy has a plan: she will find adventure with a sex worker named Leo Grande. In an anonymous hotel room Nancy greets Leo. He looks every bit as good as his picture, but what Nancy wasn’t expecting was conversation as well as fornication. Leo has a view on everything, and though he may not always tell the truth, Nancy finds she likes him. And he likes her. Friday 16 September at 7pm Saturday 17 September at 4:30pm Sunday 18 September at 2pm | | | THE REASON I JUMP M – Occasional coarse language | 82 mins | $14* Based on the bestselling book by Naoki Higashida, The Reason I Jump is an immersive cinematic exploration of neurodiversity through the experiences of nonspeaking autistic people from around the world. The film blends Higashida’s revelatory insights into autism, written when he was just 13, with intimate portraits of five remarkable young people. It opens a window for audiences into an intense and overwhelming, but often joyful, sensory universe. Moments in the lives of each of the characters are linked by the journey of a young Japanese boy through an epic landscape; narrated passages from Naoki’s writing reflect on what his autism means to him and others, how his perception of the world differs, and why he acts in the way he does: the reason he jumps. The film distills these elements into a sensually rich tapestry that leads us to Naoki’s core message: not being able to speak does not mean there is nothing to say. Saturday 17 September at 2:30pm Sunday 18 September at 4pm | | | NATIONAL THEATRE LIVE: STRAIGHT LINE CRAZY E – Exempt | 180 mins | $25* Ralph Fiennes leads the cast in David Hare’s (NT Live: Skylight) blazing account of the most powerful man in New York, a master manipulator whose legacy changed the city forever. For forty uninterrupted years, Robert Moses exploited those in office through a mix of charm and intimidation. Motivated at first by a determination to improve the lives of New York City’s workers, he created parks, bridges and 627 miles of expressway to connect the people to the great outdoors. Faced with resistance by protest groups campaigning for a very different idea of what the city should become, will the weakness of democracy be exposed in the face of his charismatic conviction? Broadcast live from the Bridge Theatre in London, Nicholas Hytner directs this exhilarating new play.
