SYMPHONY ACADEMY STUDENT HONORS

Congratulations to our Des Moines Symphony Academy students on their recent honors!
  • Laura Carther – Winner, Des Moines Symphony Youth Orchestras’ Youth Symphony Concerto Competition.  Laura will perform the first movement of Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Des Moines Symphony on Tue, Mar 25 and Wed, Mar 26, 2014. Laura is from the violin studio of John Helmich and concertmaster of the Des Moines Symphony Youth Symphony.
  • Luke Most – Honorable Mention, Fort Dodge Area Symphony Young Artist Competition.  Luke was also recently accepted to Interlochen Summer Arts Camp. Luke is from the piano studio of John Helmich.
  • Petrino Ippolito -- Performed in February with a band at Carnegie Hall as part of the American High School Performance Series. Petrino is Principal Horn in the Des Moines Symphony Youth Symphony.
  • Shana Liu – Winner, Des Moines Symphony Youth Orchestras’ Youth Symphony Concerto Competition.  Shana will perform the first movement of Grieg's Piano Concerto with the Des Moines Symphony Youth Orchestras’ Youth Symphony on Wed , Apr 17, 2014. Shana is a member of the Des Moines Symphony Youth Symphony.
  • Susannah Crichton -- First Place in the 9-10 Flute Division at Perry Band Olympics, with more than 40 entrants. Susannah from the flute studio of Anne Stein and a member of Zauberflote.

Alon Goldstein master class

Symphony Academy piano students and the Youth Symphony Honors Piano Trio will play in a master class Friday, March 7 at 4:30pm with pianist Alon Goldstein in Monroe Hall in the Performing Arts Hall at Drake University. This event is open and free to the public! 

Free tickets for Des Moines Symphony Academy Day 2014

The Des Moines Symphony Academy celebrates its second annual event with free tickets for the first 200 students to attend the Sunday, March 16 Moldau & Dvorak concert, featuring Des Moines Symphony Orchestra Principal Percussionist and Symphony Academy faculty member Aaron Williams!
