We are happy to inform you that Grassroots Jerusalem is fully back, after two and half years that we have been creating a new model of funding.
Our model of financial independence and self-sufficiency is the way to break free of the limiting funding systems and the NGO industrial complex. We stopped applying for conditional funding, project-based funding, or any funding that does not fit our agenda.
Naturally, such a step came with huge challenges. With the very limited funding, our team has grown smaller, we had to move to a smaller office space and our work shrunk to the minimum.
Nonetheless, we managed to keep Grassroots Jerusalem active!
Among the activities we continued to do in the last 2.5 years:
Tours: GJ has given more than 100 tours of Jerusalem to groups from all over the world.
Advocacy: GJ has done 2 speaking tours in the US, and also continued to give interviews and write articles about Jerusalem from a Palestinian perspective.
New Strategy: We finalized our 3-year strategy for GJ, to continue supporting Jerusalem grassroots mobilization and long-term strategizing sustainably.
Our new funding model includes receiving only core-funding, based on our strategic plan, without having to adjust our work to donor agendas. In addition, we strongly believe in crowdfunding, and invite friends and supporters to donate small monthly amounts that help strengthen our sustainability. Finally, and very importantly, we generate our own income through our activities: our political tour of Jerusalem, as well as the selling of Wujood, the grassroots guidebook to Jerusalem.
Follow us on facebook and twitter to learn more about developments on the ground from Jerusalem, as well as our upcoming activities.
