Dear friend,

The world, our society, and social media might have told you that you aren't enough. You might compare yourself to co-workers or friends who just seem to "have it all together," and wonder what the heck is wrong with you. Adults are supposed to have life figured out...right?

This Valentine's Day, don't compare yourself to your best friend or to your worst enemy. Compare yourself to the you that lived last year. Do you hold disdain for that person or compassion? Do you speak kindly to that person? Do you have empathy on the less experienced you?

For most of us, our inner critic speaks harshly. We say things to ourselves that we'd never say to our child, our spouse, or even to a stranger on the street.

Be kind to yourself, not because you did something special to deserve it but because you are intrinsically valued and loved. Kindness and patience with yourself will help you bring more of those qualities to your community.

And right now, we all need a little more kindness in our lives.

Whether you are celebrating Valentine's Day the traditional way, making it a day with friends, or skipping it entirely - I hope you know how much joy you've brought to someone's life. I hope you know how much you matter, simply because you exist.
