Hello Modern People,

It has certainly been a busy couple of months. Quarter number one has been our best so far and once again we would like to express our gratitude to all our clients, friends, and collaborators who support our operations. We are happy to share a couple of the latest news, Here are the highlights.

Welcome, Carlos!

Habanero has a new member of the team. Carlos Moreno is a recent graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio and currently is calling Raleigh his new backyard. He excels in sustainable design practices and would like to pursue a Master's Degree in this area. He entered the COTE top ten for Students Competition in the fall of 2019. He is part of the CACP Honor Roll at his alma mater and also developed a project in his Systems Studio to design a resilient Eco Hotel in Galveston in accordance with the architecture 2030 challenge. In his spare time, Carlos enjoys listening to Metallica and playing soccer. He is also a hardcore San Antonio Spurs fanatic.

On the Boards: Carrousel Residence

We conducted a feasibility study for a family living in Cary. Their space necessities shifted recently with the advent of a new family member. The program consists of a family room, a kitchen remodel, and a new deck area. Flexibility and openness in the daily functions were key. The house sits in a very traditional neighborhood, therefore consideration based on contextual patterns was important as we tried to propose a modern structure.

A feasibility study consists of a series of exploratory design options that will uncover the possibilities and limitations of a project. This is invaluable because it allows our clients to see the big picture before committing to the full development of the project. This document also helps the owner start a conversation with a general contractor as they will help them to get a good idea of the cost implications. If you are interested or know someone who would be interested in knowing more about our plans, contact us. today. It is never too early to start a conversation.

On the Boards: TR126 Residence

Without disclosing too much, we are working on a project in Mexico. This project is a collaboration with MR Arquitectura Interior. The residence will sit in a country club area and will be developed for a family of four. Here are some early sketches of the process. We cannot wait to show you more information about this project.

On the Boards: England Residence

Another feasibility study in the making. This project is located in Fuquay Varina. The existing house will be remodeled and there will be an addition proposed above a garage area. More details to come!

[DA] Diversify Architecture

Did you know that only 2.4% of the architects' population is Black? Or that only 7.4% is Latinx?

Joe had the pleasure of joining a session to help Diversify Architecture. The session consisted of the creation of a curriculum for one of their programs to provide a school club curriculum with lessons in architecture. The goal of this group is to produce and support minority architects so that the people designing our communities look more like those living in our communities.  The dynamic of this session was done via Zoom with the goal of brainstorming some ideas for the curriculum of this club. Joe felt honored and motivated to see this group in action. Donations and volunteering are certainly welcome in the group.  If you would like to know more about them, please visit their website or follow them on Instagram.
