Hello Modern People,

Among the news: we have new pictures of our first commercial project; Joe was honored to serve as a mentor for America for the Arts DIAL program; our house in Cary is looking phenomenal, and we are hiring!

Quantum Eye-Care

This renovation project is located in the University Mall Area in Chapel Hill. A 2,400 SF retail, lab and exam rooms were upfitted for this existing space. We raised the ceiling height and adjusted the roof to comply with modern codes. The interiors done by Eye|Designs group show a beautiful palette of contrasting neutrals that elevate the branding of Quantum Eye-Care. Among site improvements, an ADA ramp and new access were designed to comply with modern codes.

On the Boards: Maracas Montessori

We have concluded the advance planning phase for what will be an amazing opportunity. The project consists of a series of outdoor classroom modules surrounded by forestry to encourage the kids to explore and respect nature. The relationship between indoor-outdoor plays an important part in the arrangement of the spaces. The program consists of the addition of classroom modules and a new administrative building. The existing school will be remodeled to adapt a teacher's lounge and upgrade some facility features.

America for the Arts Mentorship Program

Joe had the honor of being paired with Alhanna Cancel to participate as a mentor for the Diversity for the Arts Leadership Internship. The Diversity in Arts Leadership (DIAL) internship program, administered by Americans for the Arts and national partners, matches undergraduate students from backgrounds underrepresented in arts leadership with dynamic communities, energetic host arts organizations, and mentors, to guide students’ personal and professional growth throughout the summer.

Alhanna and Joe met weekly during the summer to talk about what it is like to pursue an architecture degree and be an architect. You can learn more about the DIAL program here

Project Update: Webster Residence

The Z-Snake Residence has a roof, windows have been installed and siding is going up! Kudos to ReMade Modern for the attention to detail.

We Are Hiring!

We are looking for a Project Designer with three to five years of experience. See the job description here. If you would like to apply, please send your resume and portfolio link to

Last but not least...

Happy Mexican Independence Day and Hispanic Heritage Month

You may have heard, but Cinco de Mayo is not really Mexican Independence Day, in fact, it is today, September 16. This day also marks the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month. National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15th to October 15th in the United States for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. There is no better Latino ambassador in the world of architecture than Luis Barragan. So I would like to dedicate this paragraph to talking about him.

Luis Ramiro Barragán Morfín (March 9, 1902 – November 22, 1988) was a Mexican architect and engineer. His work has influenced many contemporary architects including our work. Barragán's buildings are frequently visited by international students and professors of architecture. He won the Pritzker Architecture Prizethe highest award in architecture, in 1980, and his personal home, the Luis Barragan Studio was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

Stay tuned for more news. Please make sure to follow us on Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook. Do not hesitate in contacting us.  It is never too early to start a conversation. Let us know if we can be of any help.
