Boards and Commissions,

The Town of Fairfield Emergency Management Team is continuing our work to meet the evolving challenges of the COVID 19 pandemic.

Our daily focus is threefold.

First, we are dedicated to protect both our emergency services and town staff workforce. We continuously evaluate all potential routes of exposure for employees and update the personal protection protocols.  We cannot emphasize enough the best way for the public to help us to STAY HOME. Staying home helps reduce the spread of the virus, and in turn helps to maintain hospitals capacity for the truly sick, reduce our use of personal protective equipment at a time when we need preserve that vital resource, and help protect our emergency responders from exposure. We recognize and appreciate the extraordinary sacrifices that have been made. Please continue your vigilance and encourage all to adhere to the physical distancing mandates.

Second, we are maintaining emergency services through rigorous COVID tracing protocols. We are tracking every potential exposure to suspected COVID 19 patients and providing support and guidance to our emergency responders to prevent the spread by those exposures. The Fire and Police Departments are fully staffed and remain confident in our ability to maintain our service levels in the community.

Third, the Emergency Management Team is collaborating with Operation Hope, the Social Service Department and the Private Sector to assist in the following ways:

  • Operation Hope continues to hold food drives and posts those dates on their website. The economic impact of the pandemic will increase demands on this service. We encourage everyone to help your neighbors in need.

  • Social Services/Senior Center provides meals to seniors in their system. This service has been expanded for those in need and relies on the donations from the Operation Hope Food Pantry.

  • A Fairfield Covid 19 Relief Fund has been established to provide Fairfielders the opportunity to make financial donations to support our residents who are hardest hit by the economic impact of the pandemic. This effort is similar to the very successful program we used after Super Storm Sandy. All donations should be made payable to the Fairfield COVID 19 Relief Fund. Details will be posted on the Town of Fairfield website next week. The program will be managed by Operation Hope.

  • We continue to coordinate with behavioral health providers from the town’s Social Service Department, Health Department, Police Department, School System and local clergy. We are mindful of the challenges and hardships residents are experiencing.

Sacrifices are helping us flatten the curve to reduce the number of illnesses and fatalities. The news we receive daily on the TV and online is disturbing. Each of us processes that information differently. If anyone needs support or guidance, they are encouraged to reach out to a friend, family or professional for emotional support. Resources are available through Town of Fairfield Social Services. Additional information is posted on both the Social Services and Health Department websites.

Again, I ask that you continue to practice and promote physical distancing. It will never be more important than in the upcoming weeks. Please do not give up now. It is our civic responsibility to help flatten the curve.

Thank you,
Denis McCarthy
