About the webinar:
Presenter: Professor Sir David King (UK Special Representative to the Foreign Secretary on Climate Change)
SEEd would like to welcome Sir David King as the first SEEd Schools Webinar Presenter of 2014. Sir David will provide you and your pupils with an introduction to why governments around the world have been coming together over many years to discuss how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and what this means for sustainability.
Hear about how science tells us why global average temperature rises of more than 2°C above pre-industrial levels will significantly change the world’s climate and why we need this not to happen.
Explore ideas about how recent human activity in different parts of the world has caused the Earth’s surface to warm by about 0.8°C since around 1900 and why this is significant
Examine some of the ideas and innovations which are helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Find out about what Sir David does within the government as UK Special Representative to the Foreign Secretary on Climate Change.
Think about why climate change negotiations take place at an international level and why countries agree or disagree on what they need to do
