Beste lid van de NKWP:
Als nieuwe voorzitter van de Nederlandse Kring voor Wetenschap der Politiek (NKWP) ben ik verheugd om u onze eerste NKWP newsletter te sturen met wat informatie over de NKWP.
Ten eerste ben ik verheugd te kunnen aankondigen dat de Call for Papers voor het Politicologenetmaal zojuist is gepubliceerd op onze website: https://politicologenetmaal.eu/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Politicologenetmaal-2020-Call-for-papers.pdf. Dank aan Dr. Maurits Meijers en Dr. Andrej Zaslove, Radboud Universiteit hiervoor. Namens het organiserend comité, de NKWP en de Association for Political Science (VPW) willen we u allen graag aanmoedigen om een papervoorstel in te dienen voor één van de workshops uiterlijk op 27 maart 2020.
Voorts willen we u erop attenderen dat we op onze laatste NKWP Bestuursvergadering (die van 29 november jongstleden) hebben besloten om een email adres te creëren voor de NKWP. Van dit email adres sturen wij u nu deze newsletter. We hebben alle leden lid gemaakt van deze lijst. Mocht u liever niet deelnemen dan kunt u ons dit laten weten (per retour mail). U kunt zichzelf ook uitschrijven door op de link onderaan deze newsletter te klikken als u geen prijs meer stelt op het ontvangen van onze newsletter. Onze bedoeling is dat we niet te veel mails sturen. Bovendien willen we een archief aanleggen op onze website zodat men de eerder verstuurde newsletters gemakkelijk nog even kan opzoeken. We houden dat archief een beperkte tijd op de website.
Daarnaast nog even een herinnering dat de NKWP samen met haar Vlaamse zusterorganisatie VPW twee prijzen uitreikt, te weten de Els Witte Jaarprijs Politicologie voor het beste proefschrift en de Daniël Heinsiusprijs voor de beste scriptie van het voorgaande jaar. De uitreiking van de prijzen vindt plaats op het jaarlijkse politicologenetmaal. Voordrachten voor de Els Witte jaarprijs 2020 kunnen worden ingediend bij de secretaris van de NKWP, Walther Kok (de deadline is 1 maart 2020) en voor de Daniel Heinsiusprijs bij de secretaris van de jury van de Daniel Heinsius prijs, Gilles Pittoors (de deadline is 3 februari 2020) voorzien van pdf-exemplaren. Ten slotte willen we binnenkort een korte enquête uitzetten naar de leden met de vraag wat ze van NKWP verwachten. Mocht u bepaalde zaken graag zien op de enquête, kunt u ons dat per mail laten weten. We hebben de volgende onderwerpen bediscussieerd tijdens de bestuursvergadering en zullen vragen in deze trend opnemen in de vragenlijst.
Op dit moment is de NKWP een organisatie met de volgende doelstellingen:
- Organiseert activiteiten
- Functioneert als platform voor academische en praktijk politicologen
- Organiseert het politicologenetmaal
- Organiseert of ondersteunt een aantal andere activiteiten (kleine subsidies voor workshops)
- Heeft een wetenschappelijk tijdschrift Acta Politica
- Geeft prijzen uit (beste proefschrift; beste scriptie)
Mogelijke vragen: doet het NKWP deze zaken goed? Hoe zou de NKWP kunnen verbeteren?
Als de NKWP zich breder zou kunnen opstellen, welke activiteiten zou hij kunnen ontplooien?
Voor welke uitdagingen zien politicologen zich geplaatst waar de NKWP wellicht bij kan helpen om de situatie te verbeteren (werkdruk, loopbaanvooruitzichten, verengelsing curriculum, onderzoek-onderwijs balans)?
Welke andere coördinatie rol kan de NKWP vervullen (bijvoorbeeld, samenwerking politicologie onderwijsprogramma’s in Nederland)?
In hoeverre wilt u nauwere samenwerking met Bestuurskunde?
Deze en andere vragen willen we in de enquête opnemen. Reacties van u kunnen gestuurd worden door te antwoorden op deze mail tot 14 februari 2020.
Ik hoop dat ik u voorlopig voldoende geïnformeerd heb en zie uit naar de ontmoeting met velen van u in Nijmegen op 11 en 12 juni.

In my capacity as the new chair of the Dutch Political Science Association (NKWP), I am pleased to send you our first NKWP newsletter with some current information.
First, I am pleased to announce that the Call for Papers for the Annual Politicologenetmaal has just been published on our website: https://politicologenetmaal.eu/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Politicologenetmaal-2020-Call-for-papers.pdf. Thanks to Dr. Maurits Meijers and Dr. Andrej Zaslove, Radboud University for their work on setting the program. On behalf of the organizing committee, the NKWP and the Association for Political Science (VPW) we would like to encourage you all to submit a paper proposal for one of the workshops (deadline: 27 March 2020).
We would also like to draw your attention to the fact that at our last NKWP Board meeting (29 November 2019) we have decided to create an email address for the NKWP. We are now sending out our newsletter from this email address. We have subscribed all current members to this email list. If you prefer not to participate please let us know by return mail. You can of course also unsubscribe at any time by clicking on the unsubscribe link at the bottom of this newsletter. Our intention is that we do not send too many emails. Moreover, we intend to create an archive on our website so that the previously sent newsletters can easily be consulted at a later date. We keep that archive on the website for a limited time.
Furthermore, please allow me to remind you that the NKWP, together with its Flemish sister organization VPW, are presenting two prizes, namely the Els Witte Annual Prize for Political Science for the best dissertation and the Daniël Heinsius prize for the best thesis of the previous year. The prizes will be presented at the Annual Politicologenetmaal. Nominations for the Els Witte Annual Prize 2020 can be submitted to the secretary of the NKWP, Walther Kok (deadline is 1 March 2020) and for the Daniel Heinsius prize to the secretary of the jury of the Daniel Heinsius prize, provided with Gilles Pittoors (deadline is 3 February 2020) with PDF copies. Finally, next month we would like to conduct a short survey in order to learn a bit more about what members expect from NKWP. If you have any suggestions for questions to feature on the survey, please inform us by return email. At our last Board meeting we discussed the following issues (which we intend to include on the survey), for instance The NKWP is currently an organization with the following objectives:
- Organizes activities
- Serves as a platform for academic and practical political scientists
- Organizes the Annual Politicologenetmaal.
- Organizes or supports a number of other activities (small grants for workshops)
- Has a scientific journal Acta Politica
- Awards prizes (best PhD dissertation; best Master’s thesis)
Possible questions: does the NKWP do these things well? How could the NKWP improve?
If the NKWP could take a broader approach, what activities could it undertake?
What challenges do political scientists find themselves in which the NKWP might be able to help improve the situation (work pressure, career prospects, curriculum, balance of research-teaching)?
What other coordination role can the NKWP play (for example, cooperation in political science curriculum in the Netherlands)?
To what extent would you prefer closer collaboration with Public Administration?
We want to include these and other questions in the survey. If you have any suggestions, please send us your thoughts by replying to this email by 14 February 2020.
