February Update

Arthur - 1 yr old Smooth Collie
Hopefully everyone is healthy and safe.

February is here! I wanted to take the opportunity to talk about wellness and the importance of taking the time to care of yourself. Whatever that may be; be it taking that mid day walk to break away from that home office, taking a skate on the canal or a ski , drinking more water, making time to visit you local health care provide, talking to someone about challenges you may be facing, trying to get more/better sleep. Whatever it may be, we all have opportunities to take care of our wellness. Otherwise, we may be forced to make time for illness, as the absence of wellness can lead to poorer health outcomes.

Different things you can engage in such as fitness, healthy eating and engaging in meaningful conversation can be a great way  to enhance your wellness and prevent illness by staying healthy, especially in these challenging times.

At any rate, I wanted to thank everyone for their continued trust in me, allowing me to help enhance your health. Feel free to reach out anytime!

Winter Wellness Tips

With the winter weather here, it can sometimes feel quite miserable being cooped up at home. To combat this, we can take small conscious steps throughout our day to make the winter months a bit more tolerable.

Here are a few simple ideas:

Make a schedule (especially during the work/school week) - we are more likely to follow through with things especially if we have a plan and write it down.

Think of scheduling things that get you moving/promote self care or wellness throughout your day especially if you have the flexibility to break away from your office setup temporarily. Walking breaks, stretching breaks, meditation etc.

Use technology to promote healthy habits -  Fitbit movement reminder every 45min , Water reminder app on phone, set an activity alarm (after 45min get up and walk) etc.

Plan a short home fitness, or stretching routine -  start with a 10-15 min routine - pick a few simple movements, stretches, rolling, stretching, etc.) It doesn't have to be super long and complicated, try to sprinkle it into your day.  If you are looking for inspiration check out my  Exercise page: password kbfst2019

Daily Outdoor Physical activity - Getting outside is very good for you, not just physically, but mentally also. Seek out fresh air, vitamin D, especially since we spend less time outdoors in the winter.

Water Intake - In the colder weather, it’s more difficult to notice when your body is sweating. Perspiration combined with extra clothing and drier air can cause our bodies to become dehydrated without us even noticing. Staying hydrated through the winter can boost your immune system and give your body the support it needs to fight off infection. Drinking water and staying hydrated can also help you stay warmer in the winter months. Your body uses water to help maintain a temperature balance and when you aren’t adequately hydrated, your body can become cold.

Health and Safety Measures in Place

The Province of Ontario and the Ministry of Health has granted Regulated Health Practitioners permission to gradually and responsibly reopen their practices, following strict health measures and guidelines set out.
Because of the risk factors and how (COVID-19) is transmitted, measures will be put in place to reduce risks as much as possible especially to those most vulnerable.
One of these measures include wearing face masks. The Chief Medical Officer of Canada recommends face masks, and that they do in fact help to reduce the risk of transmission when used correctly.

Procedure/measures that will be implemented in addition to existing cleaning/disinfecting include:

- Pre-Appointment screening (received 24hrs prior to appointment - read and confirm)
- Screening at the appointment prior to treatment
- 15 Minute Gaps between appointments (This will allow for sufficient time for client departure, extra sanitizing measures)

- Personal Protective Equipment - NEW** Therapist will be wearing N95 style mask.
- Patients will be asked to wear masks (Please bring your own clean mask - Medical mask or level greater is encouraged. If you do not have one you will be provided with one at no cost.
- Patients will be asked to arrive on-time (no earlier than 5 minutes prior) and come by yourself for your appointment
- Patient should sanitize or wash hands upon arrival - both options are provided.
- Social Distancing - 6ft (2 metres) in the building, outside of treatment time (During intake, interview, post treatment)
- We will remove all items that cannot be sanitized to further reduce risk of contact transmission.
- FST Straps are now made of vinyl and can be wiped clean after each use.
