Hopefully everyone is healthy, safe and has enjoyed a great summer so far!
I hope everyone has been able to get outside and perhaps spend some time playing a new sport, trying a new outdoor activity, walking, hiking, etc. I've been lucky to have had some time off to get some paddleboarding in, hiking with my dogs and roller skating!
One thing to keep in mind when spending more time outdoors is to avoid dehydration related muscle cramps and injury by replenishing your fluids and electrolytes.
In the summer, the weather is much warmer, which causes us to sweat and lose fluids at a much faster rate. Sweat contains magnesium and potassium in the form of electrolytes. This loss causes a low-grade deficiency that results in increased muscle cramps. The fluid loss causes possible dehydration as well.
Prevention begins with understanding the causes of heat stress. Knowing the signs of heat injury and being able to treat it immediately will reduce the number of severe cases. Possible preventive measures include taking daily supplements of calcium, magnesium and potassium and drink lots of water.
Fruit, certain juices and electrolyte tablets such as Nuun or Hydralyte can be quick easy ways to replace electrolytes lost through sweat.
At any rate, I wanted to thank everyone for their continued trust in me, allowing me to help enhance your wellness.
Looking forward to hearing about everyone's summer so far in the clinic!

Policy Updates Regarding Masking
|
|
As we continue to monitor the situation locally as it relates to the spread of COVID-19, I wanted to update patients on our policies.
On June 8, 2022, the Chief Medical Officer of Health announced the end of most mask mandates and that any remaining directives will be revoked and replaced with new guidance. CMTO (College of Massage Therapists’s) COVID-19 page has been updated to reflect recent changes and a summary is below:
Masking:
- Except for long-term care and retirement homes, mandatory masking has ended.
- Despite this we ask that clients consider others (especially in common spaces) and consider wearing masks to their appointment. Although it is not mandatory please assess your own comfort level and level of risk.
- Please continue to wear your mask if you are able to for your appointment. As mentioned, it is not mandatory but is highly recommended and appreciated!
- I will continue wearing masks with all patients as requested.
Screening:
- The Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 Patient Screening Guidance Document continues to be available.
- RMTs cannot provide treatment to anyone with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 until those symptoms have subsided or to anyone who is supposed to be self-isolating at the time of their scheduled appointment.
- Please continue to self screen prior to appointments.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via email.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Health and Safety Measures in Place
|
|
The Province of Ontario and the Ministry of Health has granted Regulated Health Practitioners permission to gradually and responsibly reopen their practices, following strict health measures and guidelines set out.
Because of the risk factors and how (COVID-19) is transmitted, measures will be put in place to reduce risks as much as possible especially to those most vulnerable.
One of these measures include wearing face masks. The Chief Medical Officer of Canada recommends face masks, and that they do in fact help to reduce the risk of transmission when used correctly.
Procedure/measures that will be implemented in addition to existing cleaning/disinfecting include:
- Pre-Appointment screening (received 24hrs prior to appointment - read and confirm)
- Screening at the appointment prior to treatment
- 15 Minute Gaps between appointments (This will allow for sufficient time for client departure, extra sanitizing measures)
- Patients will be asked to wear masks (Please bring your own clean mask. Medical mask or level greater is encouraged. If you do not have one you can be provided with one at no cost.
- Patient should sanitize or wash hands upon arrival - both options are provided.
- Social Distancing - 6ft (2 metres) in the building, outside of treatment time (During intake, interview, post treatment)
- We will remove all items that cannot be sanitized to further reduce risk of contact transmission.
- FST Straps are now made of vinyl and can be wiped clean after each use.
