Hello All

With all this lovely warm weather, we could have an early harvest - so we’ll have to start planning for Abundance 2014.  To start off, here are a few things you might be interested in over the next few weeks.

First of all just to let you know, we're intending to send out all emails to the Abundance network using this new format. Last year, it was becoming increasingly difficult to send an ordinary email to a lot of people and many emails were getting blocked. So hopefully this MailChimp format avoids some of those problems. Please let us know if this works for you.

Get more involved in Abundance?
Several active members of Abundance have moved on in recent months and we are seeking people to join the organising group. The organising group plans the fruit picking, distributing and using of the fruit, and also what stalls to have at Fruit Day our fund-raising event.  Even if you can just get involved in one of these aspects, your help would be very welcome. So please get in touch with joycepountain@virginmedia.com to find out more. Most activity is over the summer so it's not a long term commitment!

Elderflower picking anyone?
The elder trees have been flowering for the last week or two. I’m hoping there are still some left for making elderflower cordial and am planning to go picking along the Wandle on Thursday morning (May 22nd). Please let me know if you’d like to come along.

The Piazza Garden
The Chelsea Fringe is the 'alternative' gardening festival and this year (for the first time) we have an entry from Wimbledon. The plan is to turn The Piazza (outside of Morrisons) into a garden for a day on Sunday 8th June.

This is an opportunity to show off what you grow at home and to encourage others to do so. The idea is that you bring along a plant in a pot (or something else from your garden) to put in the display. You can also add information about the plant or a gardening tip or about a group you are involved with. Everyone is welcome to contribute something, but please let Caroline (who is organising all of this) know in advance so that she can plan where to put it. Contact Caroline at cpankhurst2005@yahoo.co.uk For more details, see the website HERE

Abundance will be contributing some edible plants to The Piazza Garden. It'll be a great opportunity to get publicity for the project and encourage more people to make use of their fruit. So please do come along to see the garden, anytime from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 8th June.

An evening with London Orchards
If you are interested in planting an orchard (or just a few fruit trees) then why not come along to a London Orchards event at City Hall next Thursday evening 29th May. It's a free evening, but you need to register HERE  There will be talks about looking after your orchard, cider-making and running a community orchard, and I expect there will be people from other Abundance groups around London. If you'd like to meet up to go, then please drop me an email at joycepountain@virginmedia.com

Wimbledon Common Nature Club seeks Co-leader
This club is a wonderful way for children to learn about nature and to keep occupied on a Sunday morning. They cover a different topic each month e.g. pond dipping, shelter building and picking edible plants. Although the club just meets once a month, the organising team needs another member to share responsibility. Find out more  HERE

Wimbledon Village Fair
A fun day out with over 200 stalls, food village, fun dog show, horse show and children's entertainment. Proceeds go to Wimbledon Guild, which supports local people - the elderly, families and anyone going through a bad patch. Please remember to visit us at the Sustainable Merton and Abundance stall. Wimbledon Common on Sat 21st June  10.30am-5.30pm
