Harcourt House 2012/2013 Artist in Residence
Alexis Marie Chute

Chute’s residency will commence on November 1st, 2012 and will be as Harcourt House’s Artist in Residence for the period of one full year, ending October 31st, 2013.

On behalf of Harcourt House staff, Board of Directors and Harcourt House members I would like to welcome Alexis Marie Chute as Artist in Residence for 2012/2013 at Harcourt House Artist Run Centre. We are all looking forward to being apart of Chute’s artistic development for the duration of a whole year. Her enthusiasm is refreshing and it will be great to have her energy around during those gloomy winter days. Congratulations Alexis Marie.

Upcoming Exhibitions

December 6-January 18, 2012
Opening Reception: Thursday December 6, 8-10pm

Main Gallery Space
Marie de Sousa | Stack

Artist Talk: 7:30pm
De Sousa’s work revolves around elemental themes. Her interest lies in the passing of time. Currently, De Sousa is using the contents of her father’s and brother’s wardrobes (both passed away) as source material and medium.   Some items are documented or consumed in a way, “Stack” (# 11,12) for example, is a life-size replica sculpted entirely of insulation foam.

Front Room Gallery Space
Corey Hardeman | Rooted

Artist Talk: 7:00pm
Hardeman’s detailed oil paintings convey the fragility of a fleeting instant and the narrative of a stilled moment. Many of these pieces originate with animals found by the side of the road, and represent an overtly sentimental wish for safe passage.  She is interested in focusing in on the small lives that surround her, which lend context to my exploration of my relationship with my own species and with the planet. Her paintings are documents, intended to examine and to better understand the place that she calls home.

Merry Xmas

Merry Christmas from Harcourt House

Soon it will be the time of year when everyone gets busy fighting the snow, visiting friends and family, shopping and just trying hard to stay sane. I thought I would get an early start and wish you all a very peaceful and happy holiday season from the Harcourt Board of Directors and the staff. Try to keep in mind that this season is about peace and joy. So have a good one and drop in and say hi if you get a moment.
