July 2020 Newsletter
We are living in strange times. When this all started, we took our in-person weekly classes online. Much to our delight, it went wonderfully well and we enjoy coaching via Zoom. Since we’d sprung for the business account, we figured, let's see what else we can do with it. New offerings were born:
Every Wednesday at noon PDT we hold our free Writers Lunch, where writers can ask questions, table-read scenes, and hang with other writers. It’s turning into a nice little community touchstone. READ MORE
I’ve always wanted to be part of the artistic vibrancy of Jazz-age Paris. So we launched our free Hearthside Salons, to share conversations with fascinating artists or creators every Tuesday at 5pm Pacific Time. The Zooms then become podcasts, streamable on Apple Podcasts (search for "Hearthside Salons") or Podbean. So far we’ve had an Emmy-winning Sesame Street puppeteer, a NASA scientist, a Pink Floyd vocalist, and the first Black Romulan on Star Trek, just to name a few. After the killing of George Floyd, we’ve focused on amplifying the voices of artists of color and allies in the fight against racism. Join the conversation.
In June we offered a guest workshop by the aforementioned Emmy-winning puppeteer, and it oversold in just hours, so we added two more. Now we’re running her popular class again next week, on July 19th: Liz Hara’s Demystifying the Writers Room. Eight slots are available.
And, finally, we have two new ongoing screenwriting workshops based on our Italy writing retreats. If you’re ready with that next script idea and want structured support to turn it in into pages, join us for Concept to Pages. You’ll work in a nurturing group setting on Zoom and learn new tricks and tools along the way. Dates: September 12 to November 7, 2020, with no session October 31st. READ MORE.
If you’ve already taken Concept to Pages or participated in one of our Italy retreats, you’re welcome to join Writing is Rewriting, an eight-week Zoom workshop designed to dive deeper into your existing script, diagnose what’s working and what could be working better, and polish your draft to a diamond shine. Dates: September 19 to November 14, 2020, with no session October 31st. READ MORE.
We can’t make it to Italy for our retreats this year, so let's keep ourselves busy writing here. Plan on joining us in Italy in 2021!
