How to Fix Flat Characters
Coaching clients come to me for a variety of reasons. They bring me notes from contests and development executives. Maybe there's a lack of tension in scenes, a flat second act, uneven or sluggish pacing, or perhaps on-the-nose dialog. Though it may not seem intuitive, such problems can all stem from the same basic underlying issue: a lack of character development. Deadlines for Spring Workshops Online
The deadline to apply for our BIPOC Scholarships is coming up fast: this Saturday (February 26th) at 5pm Pacific. Selected writers will work in a small group through a new script idea, building from well grounded characters to the story architecture and then to first draft pages.
Time is also running out to apply for our next Concept to Pages and Writing Is Rewriting programs, which start on March 12th and 19th, respectively. Both are live online workshops, with one-to-one sessions included for additional coaching and feedback.
You may also apply to join our 2022 Italy Screenwriting Retreats. Covid permitting, we're looking forward to heading to Umbria May 30th for a nurturing and productive writing experience.
