Sheini with Rashi

Moshe Rabbeinu is farbrenging with the Yidden, to get them ready to go into Eretz Yisroel. He reminds them that all of the brachos they will have there are all from Hashem, and remembering that helps make sure the Yidden have the zechus to stay in Eretz Yisroel!

When you come into Eretz Yisroel, you will build houses and get rich. You might make a mistake and think that you have all of these things because you are special and smart! You might say “Kochi Ve’Otzem Yadi Asa Li Es HaChayil Hazeh!” “It was MY koach that made me have all of these good things!”

But the truth is that it is HASHEM who made all of the nissim in the Midbar, and it is HASHEM who gives you the koach to have hatzlacha in the things you are doing! “Vezacharta Es Hashem Elokecha, Ki HU Hanosein Lecha Koach Lasos Chayil!” “Remember HASHEM, because HE gives you the koach!”

If you forget and think about Avodah Zarah instead (chas veshalom), Hashem will be upset. You will lose the special zechus to live in Eretz Yisroel!

Now you are going into a land with very strong kings. They are much stronger than us — but we don’t have to be afraid, because Hashem is with us and will help us win!

88 - 89

Today’s shiur Tehillim is kapitelach Pey-Ches and Pey-Tes.

In Kapitel Pey-Tes, there’s a posuk, “Ki Amarti Olam Chesed Yibaneh” — Hashem said, “I will build a world of chesed.”

Chassidus explains that Hashem created the world with the midah of Chesed. Why did Hashem choose this midah?

To use the midah of Chesed, there needs to be someone else to give to or help. We see this with Avraham Avinu, whose strongest midah was the midah of Chesed. When there were no guests, it bothered him very much! Without someone to GIVE to, you can’t use Chesed.

This is one of the reasons Hashem created the world — so that He could show His Chesed! In order to use Hashem’s midah of Chesed, there needed to be a world to do Chesed for!

Hashem also gave each of us the Midah of Chesed! We use our Chesed when we have Ahavas Yisroel to help another Yid.

Igeres Hakodesh Siman Hey

Since Hashem is so hidden in the world we need to do something special so that Hashem will give it chayus. When we give chayus to another Yid by giving tzedaka, Hashem gives chayus to the world!

Now we understand what it means, that someone who gives tzedakah “makes” Hashem’s name (“Vayaas Dovid Sheim”). Because when we give Tzedakah, it makes Hashem give chayus to Olam Hazeh which is made with the Hey of Hashem’s name, and not only to Olam Haba which is made with the letter Yud! So by giving Tzedakah, the letter Yud and ALSO the letter Hey give chayus — and only with the letter Hey is Hashem’s name complete!

This is another letter where the Alter Rebbe gets Chassidim excited to give more tzedakah, by explaining the special things that happen when we do this mitzvah.

Yud-Ches Menachem Av

Here’s something that the Mitteler Rebbe heard from the Alter Rebbe:

A Yid has to be so full of Ahavas Yisroel for another Yid, that no matter how hard it is to love him (like if he is very annoying), he will still love him no matter what.

Mitzvas Asei #246

Today we learn the same mitzvah again in Sefer Hamitzvos, that a Beis Din needs to follow the halachos when they pasken about a money question.

Hilchos To'ein Venit'an

Perek Yud: Usually we say that whoever has something, we assume that it is his. If someone else says it isn’t, that other person needs to prove it, or else the Beis Din won’t take it away. (“Hamotzi Meichaveiro, Alav HaRaayah”) But in this perek, we learn that we don’t always say that about an animal, who might wander off, or a servant who can walk around on his own.

Perek Yud-Alef: If someone is living on property for at least three years with nobody else protesting, we assume that it belongs to him, even if he doesn’t have any papers to prove it. This is called a chazaka.

In Perek Yud-Beis we learn the details of how something becomes a chazaka. For example, a person has to live on property for three years STRAIGHT, or else we don’t assume it is his.

Hilchos Shechitah - Perek Tes

In this perek we learn more problems with an animal that make it into a treifah.

Ahavas Yisroel

A chossid once came to the Rebbe Rashab in yechidus. He told the Rebbe that he was at the doctor, and the doctor told him he has to take a very yucky medicine! He asked for a bracha that it should get easier.

The Chossid was very surprised at the answer he got: The Rebbe told him that he doesn’t even have a little bit of how much Ahavas Yisroel he really needs to have!

The Rebbe Rashab explained: “Do you think that Ahavas Yisroel is just dancing with another Jew on Simchas Torah? Ahavas Yisroel can be very hard! Sometimes it can even hurt!”

The Chossid understood that if he was careful with his Ahavas Yisroel, and was even ready to do things that were uncomfortable or hurt, in order to help another Yid, then the medicine wouldn’t bother him so much!

Heard from the Chossid R’ Moshe Rubin A”H

Pesukim After Ketores

After the parts of davening that speak about how the ketores is made, we say three pesukim which Dovid Hamelech put into Tehillim:

The posukHashem Tzeva’os Imanu” was said by Avraham Avinu. It means that Hashem is always with us and gives us koach.

The posukHashem Tzeva’os Ashrei Adam” was said by Yitzchak Avinu. It says that a person who trusts in Hashem is very fortunate!

The posukHashem Hoshia” was said by Yaakov Avinu. In this posuk, we ask Hashem to save us!

According to Kabbalah, saying these pesukim three times after saying the ketores has a very strong koach!

Seforim have Hashem’s holy Torah inside. We need to treat seforim with kavod.

One halacha is that if we see a sefer upside down, we shouldn’t leave it. We should turn it the right way!

Hashem Always Loves the Yidden

The Navi Hoshea lived at the time of the first Beis Hamikdash.

The Yidden in the times of Hoshea were not following Hashem. They were serving Avodah Zarah and not listening to Hashem. In the first perek of Hoshea, the Navi gives the Yidden tochacha for not staying strong in serving Hashem.

In the second perek, we see that Hashem always loves the Yidden, no matter what. We will see this love revealed in the times of the Geulah!

Vehaya Mispar Bnei Yisrael — The amount of Yidden will be

Kechol Hayam — Like the sand by the sea

Asher Lo Yimad Velo Yisafer — Which can’t be measured or counted!

Vehaya Bimkom Asher Yei’amar Lahem Lo Ami Atem — And instead of the Yidden being called “Not My nation,”

Yei’amar Lahem Bnei Keil Chai — They will be called “Children of the living Hashem!”

In a short maamar of the Alter Rebbe, this posuk is explained:

The word the posuk uses to say “instead of” is “Bimkom,” which can also mean “in the place.” The Alter Rebbe explains that in the same place where the Yidden were called “Not My nation,” because of the aveiros they did, they will be called “Bnei Keil Chai,” children of Hashem.

Where is that place? Right here in the Gashmius’dike world!

This posuk is saying that when Moshiach comes, the Yidden will do a complete teshuvah. Then, there will be nothing stopping kedusha from shining right here in Olam Hazeh like it shines in Ruchnius’dike worlds!

Because of this teshuvah, we will be able to see Hashem in this Gashmius’dike world the way Hashem can nowadays only be seen in Olam Ha’Atzilus!
