A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPALS
Greetings Ravenswood Families and Friends,
The days are long, but the years are short. It's hard to believe the 2017-2018 school year has come to an end. As we reflect back on the year, we think happily of the many examples of academic and social growth we've seen in our students across our classrooms and grade levels. There are not enough words to express how grateful we both feel to be part of such an incredible school community. Our students, parents, teachers, staff and community members all do SO MUCH to make Ravenswood not only a fantastic community to be part of but, more importantly, a great school for every single student to learn and grow! Thank you for the part you play in making this community a special place for our students. We wish each of you a restful summer vacation with your family.
We also want to take this opportunity to extend a special thank you to Ms. Karrel as she wraps up her principal residency here at Ravenswood. As our first resident, Ms. Karrel set an incredibly high bar for any future residents we may have, has left a lasting impression on our community, and has been integral in supporting changes to how we ensure every student is achieving at high levels. We know she will continue to lead and learn well in another CPS school and thank her for everything she's done here at Ravenswood. She is now and forever a part of our Ravenswood family! Please see below this week's message for a farewell letter from Ms. Karrel.
Ravensfest: Our innaugeral Ravensfest is on the books! From music to barbecue to water fights to just enjoying time together as a community, the block party was an absolute blast and has become one of our new favorite events of the year! It was such an awesome time. If you are interested in helping organize this community-building event next year, please reach out! We also want to thank community member Adam Walsh for leading and organizing this year's event. He has been an incredible community supporter of our school and has been integral in many improvements to Ravenswood including our beautiful outdoor campus and playground as well as our parkway. Thank you, Adam! You are a true exemplar or what it means to invest in a community.
Ram-apalooza: This year, instead of a World's Fair festival, we are holding an end of year event that gives students the chance to celebrate their year and enjoy their time together. It is this Monday and it will be epic! See below for more info.
8th Grade Graduation: Last Friday marked our 8th grade graduation. It has been such a privilege to see this class become the young women and men they are and we wish them nothing but the best going forward. They are leaders, scholars and kind human beings. Watch out, world- a new group of Ravenswood alumni is coming for you!
Room Assignments and Supply Lists: We will share information on class assignments later this summer and will post updates and info on accessing on our website and FB in early August. Supply lists for next year will be posted on our website.
Office Hours and Registration: We will both be in the office for most of the summer (minus time away for trainings and some family vacations/new baby). The office will be open from 9am-3pm most days. That said, if you need anything, please don't hesitate to email either of us so we can schedule a time to meet with you.
Summer Camp: There are still a few seats left! Register by swinging by the BASA office!
Finally, we want to end by reflecting on our ongoing mission of building a school of equity, where every single student achieves at high levels academically and socially. We are both proud of the changes and growth we've made as a school, and also believe we still have room to grow and improve in service of this mission. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education and for believing in the capacity of every student! If you need anything Ravenswood-related, please don't hesitate to email either of us. Nate's email is email@example.com and Katie's is firstname.lastname@example.org.
Have a great summer, everyone.
Mr. Manaen and Mrs. Welsh
Dear Ravenswood Community,
I can’t believe it has already been one year since I was first introduced to this amazing community. I have been with Ravenswood this school year as the Resident Principal learning about school leadership from two of the best, Mr. Manaen and Ms. Welsh. In addition to all that I have learned from the Ravenswood school leaders and staff, I have also learned so much from all of you! From you I have a seen a community dedicated to helping make Ravenswood a one-of-a-kind school for some of the best students out there.
Thank you all for welcoming me into your community, sharing your stories with me and giving me the opportunity to work closely with you and your students. As this school year comes to a close I’ve begun to pursue school leadership opportunities here in CPS. I plan to bring the lessons I learned from Ravenswood about building strong community and supporting every child in his or her academic journey to my new school. I am grateful I had the opportunity to work with you this year and I look forward to hearing from you in the future.
I wish you and your students all the best!

MORE ABOUT THIS WEEK
Ramapalooza: A Year End Extravaganza!
When: Monday, June 18th
Much like Field Day, students and their teachers will have designated times to visit the Ramapalooza festivities outside. We will have lots of fun stations, food, games and treats for the students and their families to enjoy. This is a fun, unstructured way to enjoy each other's company, celebrate all of our hard work this school year and kick off the summer season. Families are welcome to attend if they choose, but are not needed as volunteers unless your classroom teacher has requested parents attend. Students should bring a towel to dry off, a t-shirt to tie-dye and a small container to bring home a plant. Ramapalooza is free for everyone. No need to send money. .
The schedule by grade is outlined below:
High School Meeting for Current 7th Grade Families
When: Monday, June 18th 4:30pm
Where: Room 104
As summer is fast approaching, Ms. Picinich, our school counselor, would like to connect about some important High School events and activities as you prepare for your 8th grade year. This year we learned a lot about the GoCPS process and want to make sure we help families through the high school selection process best we can.
All 7th grade students and parents/guardians are invited to join us to hear about the HS application process, receive activation code letters, and ask questions.
Lost and Found Last Call
Stop by lost and found in the hallway outside the drama room. All unclaimed lost and found items will be donated to Cradles to Crayons on June 19th.

Use Yubbler to buy School Supplies!
Ravenswood will be using Yubbler again this year to offer parents an online option for school supplies. As an added bonus, Yubbler will donate 50% of its profits back to Friends of Ravenswood School. Grade Level School Supply Lists will be ready in early July. We will share the link via summer newsletters and social media. You will also be able to see grade level supply lists on the school website if you prefer the hustle and bustle of school supply shopping in person.
Use Artsonia for Artwork this Summer!
No more worrying about throwing away your child's artwork this summer! Publish it into a permanent archive of your child's artwork on the Artsonia app. This app enables parents to take photos of their child's artwork and upload it to their child's online art gallery on Artsonia.com. Once the artwork is published on Artsonia, child artists' family members can order keepsakes with their child's artwork on it. Artsonia donates 20% of purchases back to Ms. Kitty to buy art supplies. Prior to using this app, parents must create an Artsonia account. Need your artsonia password to create an account? Email here. For more information, click here.
