Advent Series

COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS

Join us as we continue in our Advent sermon series, "Come Home for Christmas." This week, we will be encouraged to experience the "The Blessing of Home."

The story takes over this week. Let’s just admit it. The story that we’ve learned and told and retold, the story that we’ve sentimentalized and Disney-fied, the story that has produced songs and dramas, movies and poems. And yet through it all, the story persists. The story draws. It defies explanation. It is an act of beauty and awe and is best met with open-mouthed wonder. God, our God, promised to be born in the flesh, like our flesh. It amazes when you stop to wonder again.

That’s the blessing the week promises: the blessing of wonder.

57th Annual Vespers

DECEMBER 19, 2021 at 5PM
After losing a year of Vespers to COVID-19 cancellations in 2020, we are excited to be bringing it back in 2021. While this year's Vespers' service will be abbreviated, we can still expect to hear quality Christmas music from our chancel choir, adult handbell choir, and our children's choir.

We hope you'll join us December 19 at 5pm for evening of beautiful music and fellowship.

2022 Faith Promise Update

As of December 12 we have received 167 Faith Promises for a total amount of $433,262.  Many of you have increased your Faith Promise amount over last year and thank you for your generous response.  We are still short of our target of 225 Faith Promises and $525,000.  Follow up contacts have been and are being made.  There are still quite a few of you we have not heard from yet.  Your response is vitally important to our ability to fund ministry and missions at The Church in Aurora.  Please send in your Faith Promise card or make a Faith Promise online today.

Fellowship will provide appetizers, entertainment by “Sommertime”, with wine or soft drinks available for individual purchase. Please go to  the sign up link and register  so we can plan to have enough appetizers to share. The event is limited to the first 20 reservations.  Look forward to your company at this event!

DECEMBER MISSION UPDATE

The Missions Committee is pleased to share that in the month of December, two donations were made on your behalf…

Providence House—your generosity provided for at least 20 little ones’ snuggly beds, full tummies and 24/7 loving care.

Gathering Place—your gift will support efforts such as support groups, exercise and nutrition classes, legal and financial help, and even a wig salon to empower individuals and families coping with the impact of cancer.

The Caring Tree was a rousing success!  Last year, COVID guidelines determined that there would be no tree erected in Fellowship Hall, but with your loving participation, we still were able to service 130 individuals through computer sign-ups alone!

In 2021 the tree was back, and together with more computer sign-ups, 202 babies, toddlers, tweens, teens and adults in our area will have a Merry Christmas where perhaps there would have been none. Once again, our compassionate and concerned members have stepped up to the plate. Thank you to all who sponsored individuals and families. And many thanks to Liz Sutter who happily gave of her time and knowledge in working with the Missions Committee.

CARING TREE UPDATE

Thank you to all who signed up online or took a Caring Tree tag. You helped us provide a meaningful Christmas for more than 200 individuals! That's 70 more than last year! Your generosity is a blessing.

A special thanks to Dr. Paul Bizjak and Optimal Spine & Wellness for a large donation of gifts!
